Frank flinches. His pretence of nonchalance is entirely gone, and Ray can see the Frank he's used to, the Frank who wears his heart on his sleeve.
Linda's hesitant. Even Ray, who has never seen this woman in his life, can tell.
'It's -,' she stumbles over her words, '-nice to see you.'
Frank mumbles something that Ray is sure is supposed to be a 'Can't say the same', but is too quiet to actually be intelligible. His cigarette is down to the filter. He pulls a tiny tin box from his jeans pocket and crushes the butt against it. His lower lip wobbles as he tries to force a smile.
'Mom,' he gets out.
