Chapter 1: Caring for Chris

Chapter Text

You were laying in bed with one knee bent and one arm above your head. You were scrolling on your phone when your door opens and you see Chris’s figure slink across the room and make his way towards you. The weight on the bed shifted as he carefully climbed on top of you. He placed himself gently on your torso and layed his head on your chest. He wrapped his arms around your waist and you heard him let out a slight moan that vibrated across your skin. You could tell he was uncomfortable so you set your phone on the bedside table.

Chris was noticeably quieter when he wasn’t feeling well. You instinctively run your fingers through his hair and rub his back with your other hand. He hums a sigh of relief as you’re stroking his hair. He layed there for a moment, still, listening to your heart beat.

“What’s wrong baby?” you break the silence, expecting him to say something about his brothers pissing him off or maybe losing a video game. “My head hurts so bad,” he mumbled into your shirt. “Well why don’t you take something for it?” you ask. He groaned, a dead giveaway that he hadn’t taken any medicine for it and was probably hoping you wouldn’t bring it up. You knew he didn’t like taking pills because he claimed “it would make his body immune to them if he took them every time he was in pain.”

“Chris, honey, let’s go get you something if your head’s hurting,” you suggested, hoping he would give in this time and just let you take care of him.

“I don’t wanna get up,” he whined. “That’s okay, you can just lay here and let me doctor you up,” you said with a loving smile. He side-eyed you wondering what you were planning, but was too exhausted to argue.

You carefully slipped out from under him and covered him up with your blanket, tucking it under his chin. You then placed the back of your hand on his forehead and noticed he was really warm. “You’re really hot,“ you told him with a concerned look on your face. “Thanks.” He lightly chuckled, which quickly turned into a coughing fit. You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help but laugh. “No I mean you’re actually burning up, you dork. Just stay here and try to relax. I’ll be back in just a second.” He half-smiled up to you with squinty eyes and turned to snuggle his face into your pillow.

You make your way to the bathroom and find a washcloth, wetting it with cold water and wringing it out in the sink. You open the mirror and shake two Excedrins into your hand. Next you go to the kitchen and grab a bottle of water out of the fridge, hoping it was cold enough since you just put it in there a couple hours ago. You decide to pour it into a cup with ice just to be on the safe side. You only wanted the best for your boyfriend since you knew he would do the same for you.

When you returned to your room, Chris was sitting on the side of the bed holding a trash can in his arms. “Oh my God Chris, are you okay?” You knew he had a headache but you were hoping it wasn’t anything too serious. “I’m fine, I just thought I was gonna puke because I was coughing too hard.” He let out a pained laugh. You could see his pale face in the light from the setting sun shining in from your window. “Well don’t scare me like that,” you scolded him. You took the trash can from him and put it back under the table. “While you’re sitting up, I brought you some presents,” you smiled to him. “You shouldn’t have!” He playfully shoved your shoulder then held out his hands. You unload your armful of supplies onto the table.

“Close your eyes and open your mouth,” you instructed. He smirked and said “last time we played this game you almost shoved a dandelion down my throat so I’m scared.” You laughed, remembering your picnic at the park a few months back. “Chris I know I can be evil but there’s a time and place for that, and right now you’re kinda pitiful so I wouldn’t do that to you. Just open.” He liked when you were bossy and he complied, sticking his tongue out but keeping his eyes open just in case. You placed the two pills into his open mouth and poured some water in after them. “Swallow,” you instructed. He shot you a look, but did as you told him. “Hey I’m the one that gives those kinda commands, little missy,” He teased. You rolled your eyes at him. “Time and place,” you reminded him.

“You know I’m joking though, right? Do you still love me?” He coughed and reached for the cup you were still holding. “Of course sweetie, I wouldn’t be doing all this for you if I didn’t. Besides, who would laugh at all your corny jokes if it weren’t for me?” He leaned forward and kissed you tenderly then took a long drink before he finally realized what was in his cup. “You couldn’t have brought me anything else? Pepsi, root beer, a Shirley Temple? You know how much I hate water,” he complained. “Well beggars can’t be choosers, and sorry but I’m not a bartender, Chris. Plus you need to stay hydrated.” You smiled, hoping he would realize you weren’t meaning to sound as hateful as it came across.

He finished his water that he claimed he hated so much and you put the empty cup on the table and helped guide him to lay back. You rubbed the washcloth across his warm face to cool him down and folded it neatly then placed it on his forehead. You then removed his socks and went to get a pair of yours out of your dresser. “I’m pretty sure doctors don’t give you their socks, plus your tiny little socks won’t fit me anyway, Y/N,” he teased. “These aren’t just any socks, Chris. They’re fuzzy socks!” You wiggled them in the air at him. “And you literally wear like a size eight in shoes so shut up.”

“Nine and a half actually,” He said matter-of-factly. You slide them on his feet and pull them up on his ankles. “Perfect fit,” you glanced up at him, smirking, and he rolls his eyes at you but you can see the corners of his mouth curled up.

“Well you better get some rest,” you advised him. He quickly looked to where you were standing at the foot of the bed. “You’re not leaving me, are you?” He sounded desperate. “Why would I ever leave you, baby?”

You changed into an oversized sleep shirt and crawled up into the bed and took his previous position, wrapped around his midsection, listening to his heart beating peacefully. “Please don’t get me sick, Chris, I’ll literally kill you,” you joked. “I don’t know if that’s something I have control over, Y/N, but that wouldn’t be very cool if you got punished for nursing me back to health.” He slid his hand up in the back of your shirt and started lightly rubbing his fingers in random shapes and patterns.

“I’m so glad I have you,” he said barely above a whisper. You turned your face towards his and kissed his jaw. “I love you Chrissy,” you nuzzled into the side of his neck. “I love you too, more than you know,” he replied, planting a kiss on the top of your head. You felt pure bliss and soon drifted to sleep in the comfort of his loving embrace.
