Work Text:
"Fraternize"
That was the only word on the slide of the presentation of the new member of the Jackals leadership board.
A guy who really wanted to work hard but that Y/n didn't fully understand, although that didn't matter since the guy had lots of money and had contributed a large amount to the jackals so she wouldn't think much about it even though she wasn't the most enthusiastic about being friendly with everyone.
But this is not about him, although it is his fault since under no other circumstances would she have been in the situation she is in now.
Having lunch next to one of the most sought-after athletes and bachelors in the V-league, as well as Japan's favorite ace, Bokuto Koutaro. And although Y/n could claim that it was just a strange coincidence, that wasn't the first time that the spirited athlete had come from the front to sit next to her.
Even so, Y/n tried to convince herself that it was just the typical case of an extrovert adopting the introvert he met along the way, and at least that was the case the first time they spoke.
The beginning of the internal fraternization plan was a trip to the hot springs where everyone from the athletes to the office workers could chat with each other and achieve the leader's new vision that people perceive them as a big family.
Even with this effort, the division was noticeable, the athletes and cheerleaders were on one side, the coaches and managers were close but not mixed and then there were all those who worked in the office divided into small groups according to their areas (marketing, accounting, etc.).
The division of groups made Y/n remember the school with its notorious closed groups that were difficult to enter, bad memories that were already well back in the past but that she couldn't stop from returning from time to time.
Although of course now we are talking about adults, it was to be expected that some would venture to explore other groups, especially some office ladies who didn't waste the moment to flirt with the athletes although they couldn't do much against the beautiful and outstanding cheerleaders.
Y/n didn't waste time even trying, she knew that it wasn't mandatory to go around making friends and much less flirting so she stayed out of the matter.
Although she chatted for a while with a very enthusiastic Hinata in the queue to collect the passes and exchanged a few words with Sakusa when she lent him her hiding place so that he wouldn't socialize either, she had almost managed to go unnoticed on the walk.
Until she felt those huge golden headlights focus on her.
At first, Y/n didn't think he was actually looking at her, maybe he was just daydreaming and she had coincidentally stopped at the fixed point where he should be looking at the wall.
But then came the last day of the trip, which included a walk through the city they were visiting where she managed to get lost only to be found not long later by the loudest, talkative, and friendly of the team members, Bokuto Koutaro.
He took the opportunity to introduce himself and guided her back to the group but they both stood back a little while they talked.
Bokuto from afar was energetic, loud, and extravagant, up close... he was almost the same but also a very interesting person to listen to so Y/n got carried away by the conversation, although without getting her hopes up since even though he showed a little too much interest in her, Y/n knew he was just acting like the big friendly puppy he was.
Thought that helped her stay in denial even after exchanging numbers.
And send texts. And sit together on the way back. And let him walk her home. And have lunch together the day they return to work.
And all of that for a couple of weeks now.
- Are you guys dating?
Y/n frowned when she encountered the question as soon as she returned to her desk after lunch.
- Who?
- Oh please L/n-san.
She was really confused, her head was only thinking about the report that she had to finish before Friday and the calls she had to make for the preparations that had been entrusted to her for the sponsors' dinner next weekend.
Oh, and she also had to think of options for good places to get Bokuto a suit because he had asked her to go with him to buy one and she had selflessly accepted that he would become one of her responsibilities as well.
- I really don't know what you're talking about.
Her coworker sighed in frustration and sat next to her, looking at her in disbelief while another of Y/n's coworkers approached the scene, laughing at what she had just heard.
- I think L/n-san doesn't know that she has found herself one of the most eligible bachelors in the country.
"Oh so that's what it's about," she thought quickly before beginning to deny any kind of romantic link between her and the volleyball player, a difficult task considering that her friends kept bringing up how close the two of them had become after the job trip.
But it couldn't be, right?
Bokuto was just being friendly with her, they had become close because that's how it works with friendships, right? Not because the boy had other intentions with her, as that could be true when we are talking about an earthly Greek god with a simple average commoner.
Even so, her friends' words resonated louder in her head when while they were looking for Koutaro's suit for the dinner with the sponsors, he suggested that they find a matching dress for her to wear as her date.
Date...
Was it a date?
She thought back to the time that he had invited her to dinner and the word "date" had been nowhere to be found, but apparently that was what it was. And maybe that shopping trip was too. And all the times he had taken her for coffee or dinner, or to the amusement park, or the aquarium.
Was it all those dates or was she just going with what others were saying? What was the real possibility that she had inadvertently started dating Bokuto Koutaro? THE Bokuto Koutaro, the brightest star of the Japanese volleyball.
Y/n had planned to ask him once the event with the sponsors was over, she knew it would be embarrassing and she would probably look like a fool in front of him no matter what his answer was but she needed to know that all of this wasn't just in her mind.
- I see you very entertained with my date captain.
A strong arm wrapped around her waist possessively.
Y/n had gone out for a few drinks when she ran into Meian, who started talking to her maybe a little too close, but she didn't know how to end the conversation and get back to Koutaro without seeming rude.
But Bokuto did know, just as he knew that his captain was openly flirting with the girl he had been courting for some time, so out of instinct and as if he were a predator who wanted to steal his prey, Bokuto took Y/n's waist and moved her away from Meian's attack range.
And then Y/n saw him and saw it, in a mirror not far away that reflected the scene of the three of them perfectly as well as the not-very-friendly look that Bokuto gave to his captain.
"Mine" was all she could read in his body language, "Stay away, she's mine."
Jealousy was something new to see in him, but Y/n couldn't deny how good he looked wearing it and how even better it felt that she was the cause of it.
She, who until recently saw herself as just someone else from the crowd, became the center of attention of this person whose eyes shone when he saw her and who only until recently had she noticed.
- You really didn't know we were dating? -said a surprised and slightly offended Bokuto once they were both alone on the balcony of the place.
- I didn't think someone like you would notice someone like... me.
- Somebody like?
- Average?
- Y/n -he took her hands and brought her closer to him with his beautiful golden eyes shining in the moonlight, hypnotizing her so that she could only gravitate around that star- I was drooling over you from the first moment I saw you.
Y/n blinked a couple of times as she processed what she had just heard. Maybe she was expecting him to be a little more romantic when he spoke to her, but that only reminded her that her real crush was not the superstar Bokuto, but the friendly silly big boy she had in front of her right now.
- I didn't see you drooling tho... -she said teasing him while she laughed.
- Oh of course you didn't see me 'cause I had to look good for you, imagine letting your crush see you drooling.
They both laughed, comfortable with each other's company in a small bubble where only they mattered. Although they knew they couldn't stay there any longer because there was still work to do that night.
- So... are we dating? -Bokuto asked with a somewhat shy voice but with his not so shy hands settling subtly on her waist- you know to be able to properly tell the Captain to back off.
Y/n rolled her eyes, huffing, and rested her hands on his chest as Bokuto pulled her closer.
- He wasn't flirting with me...
- You thought I wasn't flirting with you -Bokuto looked at her, raising an eyebrow and she laughed a little louder. In that short time that sound had become his favorite so he wasn't willing to share it with anyone.
- Touché.
- So that's a yes? -He looked at her a little anxiously, they both knew the answer but he still needed to hear her say it.
And after a short silence where Y/n remembered each of the sides of the person she had in front of her, from the friendly boy who was there to help her when she got lost to the not-so-friendly jealous guy who pulled his claws out of him when he was threatened.
All that was Bokuto Koutaro, in addition to being a volleyball superstar and a young adult with problems understanding how taxes work, he was also the boy who looked at her as if she were a beautiful new galaxy to discover.
So there was no other answer to his question than a kiss with some whispered yeses that made Y/n feel the wide smile of her now new lover on her lips, a magical feeling for both of them that they would be sure to make last forever.
❥ The End
