She Saw Herself Smiling in the Flames

Summary:

"Himeko always had dreams since she was little. Nearly all of her dreams she didn’t remember, but one. The one dream she remembered would always appear on her birthday, the 11th of June. Every year, like a tradition, it would appear without failure. That is how she remembered it kept on reoccurring after all. Even if she wished not to see the dream, she couldn’t do anything about it. The dream would always be there so Himeko welcomed it with open arms."

Notes:

So, I figured out this great idea. What if Star Rail Himeko dreamt of Honkai Impact 3rd Himeko. Then BAM turned into this fic.

Yeah it's 2:09am when I finished writing this fic, sooooo IDK what sleep is.
But hey I was invested into getting this fic done.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Himeko always had dreams since she was little. The dream would always be there so Himeko eventually welcomed it with open arms.

What she saw in that dream was herself but, it also wasn’t her. It was another version of her. This other Himeko had the exact same red fiery hair she had but just in a different style and the same voice. But her clothing, weapons, the people she knew and even the life she lived were different. Himeko saw herself in a blazing red fire holding a great sword, while fighting a white hair girl with yellow eyes. She saw a battle ring out; she saw the other Himeko swing her great sword with such precision that no swing was wasted. Every single swing had meaning and weight behind it. But at the end she herself fall, the great sword breaking, and her death was certain.

Himeko shot up as she finished the dream. It always ended the same way with the other Himeko’s death, she knew this. Even if she knew how it ended it would always be shocking because the dream was so vivid, and it felt a bit too real. As if it could have actually happened.

Himeko noticed something in her dream. She saw herself smile in the burning flames, the smile was warm and loving as if it could convey so many things. Like continue to live on and finish the story. Even if Himeko didn’t understand her dream much, there was still something. There had to be a reason why she remembered this one specific dream and none of the others. Himeko glanced at her clock and saw that it was still late at night, and she couldn’t get back to sleep, especially not after witnessing that dream again. She needed someone to talk to, to just listen to her. Maybe even give some insight to why this dream kept popping up.

Himeko walked to the living area of the express and there she saw Welt. She smiled, seeing him still up at this time of night. It seemed like he was looking out the window. Admiring the vast stars and thinking of something and Himeko would not pry. It became quite normalized that either Himeko or Welt would be out here, normally one of them would come and the other was already there. Now it was Himeko’s turn.

“Welt, can I ask you something?”

“Sure, ask away.”

Welt turned around and smiled at Himeko, she lingered on his smile for a bit, and it was a similar smile that dream her did. It had the same feel to it. A smile that could say so many things. Himeko smiled back at him.

Then she opened her mouth and told Welt about her dream.
