What are the odds he'd meet a child dreaming of the All Blue with enough fierce determination to actually make it happen, otherwise? Ending up with Sanji was just as accidental as most children probably are, but the kid has made it very clear he has nowhere else to go. Despite having no desire to be a father, and by no means considering himself to be a good person, Zeff could never have just left the kid by himself."

Later Sabo wouldn’t even remember what was said. The exact order of events was quite blurry, especially after the branding. All he knows for certain is that he punched a royal brat in the face. Right in front of the King, the nobles, a contingent of Marines, and a Celestial Dragon.
How did he get from point A to point B? Punching an evil little brat giggling about the fire last night, absolutely pounding that punk into the ground, and then he was being pinned by a Marine Commander. His birth father talking talking talking complete nonsense.

Always knew there was more to his backstory than just the Orbit, too, even if Sanji clammed up tighter than any shellfish in the sea rather than drop a single hint.
Glaring up into a face he knows, bearing an utterly indifferent expression, being worn by some musclehead with green slicked-back hair and a fancy shiny outfit, Zeff is pretty sure he’s about to get hit with a whole lot more than any mere hint.
