"Alright! Let's do the final checks." Xiao Xingchen announced happily, hanging up the colorful lanterns all over the gloomy city. "Friend, please let me know if I miss out on anything."
Said "Friend" groaned, "Everything looks fine, Daozhang."
A-Qing who was squatting at the side of the road, munched on a mantou chirped in, "They don't even pay us to do this. So I think we shouldn't put in too much effort."
Xiao Xingchen frowned, hopping off the roof of one of the buildings. He landed gracefully onto the ground. "But they did give us some-"
"Mantou? Pftt..." The Friend rolled his eyes, "Only someone like Daozhang would be content to work for a few mantou and sweet potatoes. Besides, there is barely anyone around here to celebrate."
Xiao Xingchen smiled softly. "Then let's make it a memorable event for those who are here to celebrate." He added, "Could you help out with the riddle-guessing game? I'm sure the kids would love it. Besides, it would be sad to see that all Mr. Li's efforts go to waste..."
Well...then he shouldn't have DIED one day before the event. The Friend thought to himself. "Oh well, guess it can't be helped then..." He glanced up at the shabbily set-up stage right in the middle of the city. It looked so pitiful, but at least the colorful lanterns made up for it.
"Thank you." Xiao Xingchen gave a little nod. "Now, we need to check that the Osmanthus wine will be delivered by today. The outskirts of the city is dangerous, and I worry for the merchants delivering here...and the family members who are making their way back home to celebrate the festival."
"Well then, let's go check on them. Wouldn't want the goods undelivered." The Friend said.
"Yes...let's wait for them at the wayside pavilion and guide them here." Xiao Xingchen added. "A-Qing, please check with Mrs. Su that she has the mooncakes ready, and asks if Mr. Sun needs any help to set up the prayer altar. Tell him I will be back to-"
"Don't worry about it Daozhang. I will have it all handled." A-Qing cut him off, seeing that Xiao Xingchen was being a worrywart.
"Thank you, A-Qing." He turned towards the Friend, "Now then, let's depart."
"Let's go~"
