Work Text:
The small village of Tadfield seems to attract all the abnormal to the dismay of neighbor watchman, R.P. Tyler. He'd be beside himself if humans could only remember the Earth unsuccessfully ended in recent years. The Adversary, Destroyer of Kings, Angel of the Bottomless Pit and Lord of Darkness and his accompiments the Thems, two Angel's (one fallen), two Witches and two Witch Finder Army men found themselves faced against the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Satan, the king of Hell and naturalborn father to the Antichrist himself. But as evident, humanity lived. Agnus Nutter knew it would. In fact, 5 years have passed since. Nowadays, the Antichrist changed his priorities to just be a boy named Adam Young. That duty sounded much less stressful than commanding an entire world. Highschool was laborious work though, he must admit. The Astrology unit in his Science course particularly perplexed. And so, Adam grabs his book bag and sets off into the village for answers.
A year ago, Crowley moved to Tadfield. A cottage suddenly became avaliable by some miracle. Soho was a reminder of times long gone. Nothings last forever. So, Crowley decided to follow what humans do in situations of dire agony. They change their environments.
Outside the cottage, Crowley lay on a wooden dock spreading out onto a petite pond. Surronding the water are the most goregous but also most terrified plants in all of London. If Tadfield had a best lawn maintence contest, Crowley would be an all-star champion. Legs crossed and arms folded, he gazes deeply into the atmosphere. The grass rustles loudly before Adam has declared his presence.
"Hello. It's Adam. I was wondering if you were busy? I need some assistance with Astrology."
Crowley sits up with legs intangled and pats on the plank besides him. "What's it this time?"
Adam swirls around the contents of his school-bag before pushing a worksheet into Crowley's hands.
"Aw - this is easy! Did you bother studying? Nothing going on in that big head?"
Adam grins sinfully, shaking his head no. Then, he suddenly perks up with a remark. "I thought I could have the expert show me the ropes."
"Gah!" The demon agonizes. He pretends to be charmed.
"Fine!" Snorts Crowley. "Question one. Which constellation would you find the planet Jupiter in as of today's date?" He peers at Adam Young. He shrugs.
Feeling doubtful, Crowley investigates. "Don't you humans have those fancy-smancy star charts that tell ya everything? Those ones with the dials?"
"I've might've... I might have forgotten it at school," Adam deviously admits. Crowley rolls his eyes and pokes Adam in his hip. "You just want an easy way out of homework, don't ya you tricky bastard?" Adam gleams back. "I don't know how you manage to glean anything from that school," Crowley moans, deflated.
There's silence for a moment as Crowley stares at Adam. This boy was meant to bring upon Armageddon and can't even answer simple Astrology. Defeat hits his face.
Instantaneously with a snap of his fingers, the sky grows black and the night lights turn on. Millions and millions of stars illuminate the galaxy before the pair. If only humanity could stroll among it as he once did, reminised Crowley. His cries of disappointment go unheard.
"Now, look up."
Adam does and it's the same roof he's grown under for 16 years. "I'm afraid I don't know where anything is," Adam whispers shamefully.
"Err- Unfortunately for you, I'm not much help. These eyes," Crowley lowers his glasses to Adam, "can't see a whole lot anymore." There's a unnoticed agreement to not have a further explanation.
Adam explores the lights before him once again. They marvel and glitter fantastically.
"Let me help you," offers the Antichrist with an out-stretched hand. Crowley raises an eyebrow with dismay. That shouldn't be possible, he ponders. Regardless, the curiosity is born. "I-uh. Okay." Placing his hand into the Antichrist's, Crowley's sight brightens.
Alpha Centauri greets him. The headhorse nebula... it's all just as he'd remembered. It's astonishing. The engine has finished warming up and humans are witnessing the divine creations of Crowley.
"Oh my God," breaths Crowley.
"So, where is it?"
"Guh- uhh. Sorry. I ju- uh. What was that?"
"Where is Juptier?"
"Oh um." Crowley quickly stands and spins wildly. "Right... right there." Crowley points openly into the sky, proudly. Adam imagines seeing it.
"And what constellation is it in?" Inquires Adam Young.
"Aries," Crowley grins slyly. "Jupiter is currently residing in the constellation Aeries."
Hours saunter by and the demon is alone again. The pond glistens in the new light. Everything seems brighter now.
"To the World," Crowley proposes.
Nobody answers.
