Racheal Grayson never liked her hair long, she always had it short. As short as a ‘boy haircut’.
When Racheal Grayson is 8 years on old her parents die because someone cut the ropes of the flying trapeze, soon later a man whom was in the audience, Bruce Wayne, adopts her.
Soon after discovering that the man is Batman she starts fighting crime with him, she goes by Robin, something that her mother used to call her. All the villains think that she’s a boy.
”it’s okay that the villains they think I’m a boy! Then my secret identity will be even safer!!” Racheal should use as an excuse every time Batman would try to tell the villains that she’s a girl.
Racheal didn’t know why but she liked it when people would mistaken her as a boy she would get really happy. Though outside of the robin costume Bruce would always correct, them telling them that she’s a girl.
She didn’t understand why she always felt disappointed when Bruce would correct them. I mean she was a girl… right? Yea she was a girl, I mean she had all the ‘girl parts’, everyone all her life said she was a girl. She had to be a girl!
One night, while Alfred was tucking her in she asked him about it, “Alfred, am I a girl?”
”yes master Racheal you are a girl, why do you ask?” Alfred said
“I don’t know, I feel different from other girls”
Alfred left the room not thinking much of it, thinking that she only asked it because she was still struggling with English.
Racheal was called a ‘late bloomer’, she had a flat chest that she was bullied for. She didn’t care that she had a flat chest, actually she preferred it, she never wanted to have her breasts grow.
When Racheal is 12 her breasts start growing, barely anything, Bruce and Alfred hadn’t even noticed, and it would be along time until she would wear her first bra. But she noticed, she saw that her chest was growing, and she didn’t like it.
when she was 13 Alfred had gotten her, her first bra, it was small and fit her perfectly.
“I made sure to get the most comfortable one I hope you like it master Racheal.” Alfred said
the next day during gym class she was changing into her gym clothes and see tried not to look at herself as much as possible.
She felt wrong in it, uncomfortable, not physically uncomfortable, she had worn more uncomfortable things, emotionally uncomfortable it felt wrong. She felt wrong
once gym class was over she changed back into her regular clothes, when she saw herself she started silently crying, she and her classmates were always instructed to wait outside of the changing rooms for the bell to ring once they finished changing.
Racheal waited for everyone to leave, once everyone left she sobbed. She felt as though she was born in the wrong body. After a while she finally stood up and left the locker room. Once she left the locker room she looked around and saw Wally. She ran towards Wally.
"Hi Wally" Racheal said in a shaking voice
Wally looked over and saw that Racheal's face was red from crying, that her eyes were watery, and that her voice was shaky.
"Racheal are you okay?" Wally asked
Before Racheal could respond she saw that Wally was holding something behind his back, she couldn't she what it was though (partly because her eyes were still watery, but mostly because he was hiding it.)
"What's behind your back?" Racheal asked
"Oh well, it's umm this.." Wally says blushing as he pulls a singular rose from behind his back. "Wanna go out with me?"
Racheal couldn't believe it, she had had a crush on him since the 5th grade, suddenly her sad tears became happy tears
"YES YES A MILLION TIMES YES!!!" Racheal said
Later that night she fell asleep early and woke up because of a nightmare, it was a nightmare of her parents death, she hadn't gotten one of those for a good 2 years. She went to bruce's room and got into his bed next to him, she fell asleep as bruce played with her hair.
when Racheal was 14 she got her first period. she was mortified. of course she knew what a period was, she had heard the other girls talk about them all the time. But she didn't feel how the other girls said they did on their first period, she felt weird, she started crying because this was just another thing that reminded her that she was a girl. she didn't know why she was so scared of being a girl... she was a girl so why would she feel weird when people would say she's a girl, and why would she get so happy when people mistaken her as a boy?
Racheal ran to the mirror, she saw a girl, sure it was a girl with short hair and who dressed as a dude, with her plain white shirt and overalls on. but Racheal could see her breasts and the feminine facial features. She hated it. EVERY. LAST. BIT.
She started crying, she didn't know why. No... she knew why, she wished she could be a boy... WAIT. WHAT WAS SHE THINKING? SHE COULDN'T BE A BOY, SHE'S A GIRL. EVERYONE ALWAYS TOLD HER THAT! but... was it true? I mean it had to be.. she had breasts, she got periods, and had a vagina, so she had to be a girl... right? But did all that stuff automatically make her a girl? Of course it did what was she thinking!
A few minutes later she ran to tell Alfred that she had gotten her first period.
"Alfred... I got my period..." Racheal said
"I will be sure to get sanitary products right away" Alfred said
A few minutes later alfred returned with 3 boxes of pads, liners, regular pads, and night pads
"Thank you Alfred! Racheal said as she grabbed the boxes from Alfred.
she had a pretty light flow so she put on a liner. once she put on the pad she went to the acro room. it was her favorite room in the whole house, bruce had installed it a few days after she first moved in. she did some acro, it made her feel better.
A day later she went to Wally's house. She knocked. Wally opened the door. "Hey Racheal!" Wally said
"hello Wally." Racheal said as she walked into his house
They went to his room.
"Wally. I've got to tell you something important..." Racheal said
"Umm sure what is it?" Wally asked
"I feel weird, like I wasn't born in the right body.." Racheal said
"Wrong body?"
"Yea, I-I wish I was more like you."
"Like me?"
"Well not exactly you but, like a boy.. I wanna be called a boy! I wanna have male facial features! I wanna have a flat chest! I wanna be.. a boy.."
"Really?"
"Yea! I REALLY REALLY DO!"
"Well, you'll always be the love of my life no matter what gender you are"
"You don't think I'm weird?"
"No, should I?"
"Yes? No? I don't know!"
"Do you want me to call you my boyfriend?" Wally asks
Racheal nods
"Am I the first person you told?" Wally asks
"Mhm" Racheal said
"Hmm I wonder if other people also feel the same way.." Wally thinks out loud
Wally grabs his computer he searches up 'what is it if you were born a girl but want to be a boy' the word 'transgender' pops up. Wally and Racheal research more about being 'transgender' the more they research the more Racheal is confident that she he is a boy.
"It says that trans people usually change their name. Do you want to change your name?" Wally says
"Yes..." Racheal says. Then Racheal thinks of a time were her his parents were still alive, Racheal was about five years old and in her his question phase, she he remembers asking her his mom what she he would've been named if she he was a boy, her his mother told her him that they would've named her him Richard. "I wanna be called.. Richard" Racheal Richard said.
Once she he went back home she he went to his room and started searching up 'how to tell you parents your trans?' most of the things said to just go out and say it. So Racheal Richard stood up and went to where alfred is.
"Alfred I want to tell you something. I'm Trans.. I feel like a boy.... I wanna tell dad but I don't know if he supports it.." Racheal Richard said
"hmmm... master Bruce supports, he just doesnt show it much. Do you want to go tell him?" Alfred says
Racheal Richard nods
They both go to where Bruce is
"Dad... umm I am trans..." Racheal Richard said
"Trans? what's that?" bruce asked
"Sir they mean transgender." Alfred says
"So.... you want to be a boy?" Bruce asks
"yes..." Racheal Richard says
"What do you want your name to be chum?" Bruce says
"Richard." Richard says
"Richard... Richard how would you like to start puberty blockers?" Bruce asks
"YES!" Richard says
A few hours later Bruce after he made a doctors appointment.
"Hey chum I made a doctor appointment to get you approved for puberty blockers." Bruce said
"REALLY?!?" Richard asked
"mhm" Bruce said
"THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!" Richard said as he hugged Bruce
Bruce hugged him back "your welcome chum" Bruce said whispering into Richard's ear
A week later Richard was approved for puberty blockers and was of course ecstatic.
"I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!! WOOOO!!!!" Richard said as he cartwheeled all over the manor and hung on some chandeliers.
"CHUM! I KNOW YOU'RE EXCITED BUT GET OFF THE CHANDELIER! I DON'T NEED YOU BREAKING ANOTHER ONE!" Bruce said
"I'M GONNA CALL WALLY AND TELL HIM!!!!" Richard said as he got off the chandelier and got out his phone and started calling Wally. After the third ring Wally picks up
"yes?" Wally says
"I GOT PUBERTY BLOCKERS!!!!!" Richard says as soon as he hears Wally's voice
"REALLY!?!?? THAT'S SOOO COOL! I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!" Wally says
'Wally is kid flash right? why is Richard calling them? are they friends?' Bruce thinks
About 3 days later Richard is sitting on his bed and calling Wally
"Hahahaha! that's cool" Richard says as he hears a knock on his door "Oh call you later Wally!" Richard says as he hangs up the phone.
Richard opens to see alfred standing there with a box?
"Hey alfie!" Richard says
"Hello Master Richard, I have something for you." Alfred says as he hands Richard the box
Richard looks inside and it's a BINDER!
"You- you got me a binder!???!!?!?!" Richard asks ecstatically.
"Yes master Richard." Alfred says
"THANK YOU SOOO SOOO SOOO MUCH!!!" Richard says as he hugs Alfred
soon after wally joked about how 'Dick' is the nickname for 'Richard' and started calling called him 'dick' (even though he doesn't have one, somehow the nickname stuck and everyone eventually called him dick), bruce changes everything to show Richard as male, at galas he tells everyone to call richard a boy (if anyone refused to bruce would kick them out), wally would cuss out any classmate that misgendered/dead named richard on purpose, dick started testosterone at 16, got top surgery at 22, and bottom surgery at 28.
