Brainy had meticulously planned every detail of the proposal for weeks. His meticulous nature and desire for precision had been essential in preparing for this moment, but his usual quirks were making him even more nervous than he had anticipated. The ring was safely hidden in his pocket, and he had planned to propose when the timing was absolutely perfect, by his standards.
It was a quiet evening in National City, and the city's skyline shimmered with the soft glow of streetlights. Brainy had decided it was finally time to propose to Nia, the love of his life. However, he couldn't shake the feeling that it wasn't the right moment yet.
As Nia returned from her evening shift at CatCo, she noticed Brainy's peculiar behavior. He seemed unusually fidgety and was pacing around their cozy apartment, glancing at the clock and muttering to himself.
Nia couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. "Brainy, what's going on? You're acting a little... well, out of character."
Brainy tried to maintain his composure, but his nerves were getting the better of him. "Oh, nothing, Nia. I'm just, uh, working on some calculations for the DEO. You know how it is."
Nia, who knew Brainy better than anyone else, crossed her arms and gave him a knowing look. "Brainy, you're a walking computer. You don't pace and mutter to yourself when you're working on calculations. What's really going on?"
Brainy's heart raced as he struggled to come up with an explanation. He hadn't intended for Nia to discover his secret rehearsal. "Nia, I assure you, everything is perfectly normal. Just a minor technical issue with my, uh, Legion ring."
Nia couldn't help but chuckle at Brainy's feeble attempt at deception. "Brainy, you're a terrible liar. And I think I know what's really happening here."
Brainy sighed in defeat, realizing he couldn't hide anything from Nia. He retrieved the small velvet box from his pocket and opened it, revealing the sparkling engagement ring inside. "Alright, you got me. I was rehearsing how to propose."
Nia's eyes filled with surprise and delight as she took in the sight of the ring. "Oh, Brainy," she said softly, "this is a wonderful surprise, even if it's not according to your meticulous plan."
Brainy couldn't help but smile, relieved that his secret was out. "I wanted everything to be perfect, Nia. But you're right; there's no perfect moment because every moment with you is perfect."
