Work Text:
Liyue was holding one of the biggest events known in Teyvat, and people from everywhere were invited. Liyue's beauty is one that you can't find everywhere, and not so easily. A city full of wonders.
The festival was supposed to have a lot of lampions that were already ascending to the heavens, and of course you could light up your own, even customize it before! You could write your name, or your and your lover's name or initials on it, or do drawings on it and then watch the way it catches up to the ones which were already flying.
A lot of the time, you would see very many couples walking around and holding hands, be it by the water and the shore, or throughout the city itself, enjoying the festivals, fireworks show, places where you could buy all kinds of foods and sweets, especially Liyue special dishes.
Today, Alhaitham and Kaveh arrived in Liyue.
They were on a very big boat, where there were hundreds and hundreds of people from Sumeru, all very excited to arrive on this land. The ride was a very beautiful one, the weather was excellent, so they easily cruised into the blues and reached their destination.
Alhaitham read a book almost the whole ride, but had to put it down every now and then because Kaveh would be so excited that he wouldn't stop talking. It'd be a lie if Alhaitam sometimes didn't put his book down just to look at how the blonde was mesmerized by the sea and the waters around them, and the way the breeze would blow through his beautiful long hair.
When they arrived, it was still light, the sun was shining like diamonds and everyone was very excited for the sunset, because that is when the whole fun started. Still, there were plenty of things to do before it took place.
First, they looked for a shop where they could get qing paos. They weren't necessary but it would be a very nice touch for people to wear, it made the vibe of the festival even better. The two of them spent a long time on finding qing paos, it's not that it wasn't to their liking, but for example the Scribe wanted one which had green as well as gold, whereas Kaveh looked for the prettiest designs, caring less about colors. With those, they also got very beautiful fans, they were white with gold and red details, Kaveh's had lampions drawn on it, while Alhaitham's had dragons specific to the event.
"Woah, yours is pretty cool, Alhaitham!" Kaveh's excitement was very intense, and The Scribe even formed a little but genuine smile whenever he saw how hyped the architect was.
"Mhm. Yours has lampions I see." He put two fingers on the fan that was held by Kaveh, and The Scribe's fingers slowly shifted closer to the blonde's, yet he didn't really have the courage just yet to touch them.
Alhaitham knew about this event being early, yet he never wanted to go, but he thought it would be nice if him and Kaveh tried something new, especially seeing how hard the architect was working, sometimes it made him sad to see blueprints thrown away just because there was a tiny mistake, or when his clients would make a show because they didn't like Kaveh's style, or the way he did his work. Each time he tried comforting the blonde, other times he would go and personally talk with his clients, in a way or another. Depending on how hurt Kaveh was, the client that shouted at the architect would get a punch, or two, just as painful.
They went to find and try new foods next.
"I heard they have a lot of excellent food, Jade Parcels, Almond Tofu, Chicken Tofu Pudding.." Alhaitham said, while he took a small glance at Kaveh.
"They sound sooo good !! They are also so different from what we have in Sumeru! Do they also have sweets?" The Scribe unconsciously smiled at the other man, without even noticing himself.
"I'm not too sure, but I heard Universal Peace is both sweet and sour, at the same time." It was lovely to see Kaveh's face light up even more.
As they continued to walk and talk, Kaveh admired every single building in the big city, he loved the way more rooms or restaurants were somehow linked together, especially the ones on the top floors, which had trails of stairs from one another. Not to say, they were decorated in an exquisite way and with so many beautiful elements, as well as a nice color palette.
The sun started to go down, meaning the sky was now painted in beautiful tones of red, orange and yellow. People started to gather around, there were many things to see.
There were shows of people dressed up as dragons, villains and heroes, performing some long forgotten tales,
"Alhaitham !!! Did you see that?? It was crazy, I loved it !"
There were also presentations of diverse paintings, some has dragons, others had the city of Liyue, others the sunset and lampions in the beautiful sky,
"They are sooo beautiful ! Look how pretty that one is!" Kaveh exclaimed as he pointed out to one drawing, his eyes sparkling.
----------
One of the big attractions were the lampions, and of course Kaveh wanted to take part in it, and Alhaitham went with him,
"Look! Do you want to write our initials on one, and light it up?" Kaveh asked, looking extremely happy.
"Sure, why not." Alhaitham took a lampion, and he sat down next to Kaveh, who already got a pen, and was ready to write.
The gray haired man handed him the lampion, and Kaveh wrote in a beautiful and cursive way,
"A. K."
"There! I think it's good, right?"
"Hmmm..something is missing." He took the pen out of the architect's hand, and added something
"A. ♡ K."
"O" was all Kaveh could say, it was more a gasp, and of course a bright and visible smile on his face, brighter than any of the lampions that were now going high into the skies, and brighter than any firework that was to blow.
"Hm? Don't like it?"
"I love it!" Kaveh's eyes sparkled.
They got up quickly, and they prepared to light up the lampion. Kaveh held it, Alhaitham lighted it. Just when it flew away from Kaveh's hands, the firework show began, thankfully it was visible from any spot from the glamorous city.
Truly a mesmerizing sight to see, lampions flying up and above the sky, and fireworks painting the dark blue sky in all different and vibrant colors. Some fireworks even had different shapes, dragons, flowers, stars, fish, hearts.
No matter how many lampions there were on the dark sky of Liyue, how many beautiful and forever shining stars would sit above, how many fireworks got light up, what colors and how bright they were, Alhaitham's favourite and most important light was Kaveh, and Kaveh's most precious and endearing light was Alhaitham.
With no word, Alhaitham held Kaveh from the back, in a hug and they watched the blooming fireworks painting the sky.
