Work Text:

“Shit,” Sand sighs, checking his phone for the umpteenth time. “The driver keeps taking the wrong turn.” He’s tired from performing for the last few hours, he wants to go home. Turning to look at Ray, he frowns. “I’ve been waiting for half an hour.”

Ray blinks at him, then tilts his head. “Cancel the booking. I’ve got you.”

“That’s alright. I can wait.”

Reaching out, Ray places his hand on Sand’s, the one holding his guitar. “You saved me. It’s my turn to save you.”

“...okay.”

(Sand doesn’t know why he agrees to let Ray drive him home. Maybe it’s the fact that Ray had looked upset earlier, or maybe it’s the fact that his hand on Sand’s had been warm and soft.

Maybe it’s just the fact that Ray had asked.)

They get into the car after putting his guitar in the trunk, and Ray says something and Sand says something in response but he's not quite paying attention because he's being pulled into a kiss and really that takes up so much of his attention he cannot focus on anything else. Kissing Ray is all consuming, something Sand cannot stop himself from indulging in.

They kiss until Sand’s lips start to hurt, and he pulls away, unable to help the smile that spreads across his face. “You’re so persistent, Ray.”

Still holding the back of Sand’s head, Ray tilts his head and grins. “Well, you didn’t say no to me.” It’s so ridiculously endearing Sand doesn’t quite know how to deal with it. He leans back in, following Ray’s lead - dragged into his orbit again and again like a helpless comet.

They kiss, and it’s a supernova in Sand’s chest - there is nothing particularly unique about kissing Ray, it’s just kissing but also there is - because it’s Ray, who kisses with a fervor like he’s trying to devour Sand whole. It’s Ray, who is equal parts soft and rough and so utterly captivating.

It takes physical effort for Sand to stop and pull back again - he’s never found it quite this hard to contain himself. “Enough,” he says. “I’m going up to my room.”

Ray looks at him, eyes sparkling and lips pushed into a pout and it’s so tender it feels like a declaration. “What’s the hurry? Stay with me,” he urges, voice sweet. It’s like watching a work of art, Sand thinks, because surely a person cannot be so…so much. “Please,” Ray tacks on. “Please?”

“Stop that shitty puppy dog eyes,” Sand laughs, feeling himself crumble in real time. It’s almost pathetic how quickly he folds for this man, all wide eyes and soft lips.

Ray leans closer. “Why are you so harsh? I’m gonna fight back.” His expression of mock outrage melts in an instant, a smile taking over his face before he pulls Sand in by the neck.

They’re kissing again, wet and messy and so Ray it leaves Sand feeling dizzy. Pulling back again, he huffs out a laugh. “Is this what you call friends? What kind of friends can’t stop kissing each other?” Shaking his head slightly, he smiles. “Do you kiss Mew and Boston like this?” It’s not a genuine question, because he doesn’t really care whether or not Ray kisses them like this - but it is a question he asks anyway.

Ray glances away, expressions flitting over his face too fast for Sand to decipher, before he turns back and smiles. “Why do you need to compare?” Adjusting, he pulls Sand slightly closer. “Don’t define it. Just enjoy life.” The non answer makes something shutter in Sand’s chest, but he swallows it down. “You said you could differentiate between love and lust,” Ray says, a reminder of the last time they’d done this.

Sand lets his playful expression drop. “Honestly. I’ve never slept with anyone who’s not my lover more than once.” He knows himself - he knows he cannot handle that.

“So do I need to be your lover to get more from you?” Ray responds easily, undeterred.

Sand almost wants to be mad, because he’s being serious, but Ray is too hard to be upset with when he’s like this. “Damn you,” Sand can’t help but laugh. “No. I’ll never take someone like you as my boyfriend.”

“Can’t you make an exception just for me?” Honey dripping off every word, Ray is like a siren that Sand is helpless against, drawn in again and again. And he thinks he might drown, but he doesn’t know how to stop it. Sand doesn’t think he can. “Hm? Please?”

He’s not sure he wants to. “You just don’t take no for an answer, do you, Ray?”

The only response he gets is another tug back into a kiss - and Sand willingly drowns.
