Birthday breakfast

Summary:

Day 2: Family, friends and loved ones

Fubuki never thought he'd have this life.

Notes:

Fubuki birthday fluff for Flufftober because our boy deserves it and more.

And Fubuki probably has DID, but the show didn't really show it right. I'm still not sure how to write that, research is in motion though. And he probably still has Atsuya, it's just not that intense anymore. So yeah. If any complaints, I'm willing to hear about them.

Also, I have not watched Inazuma GO and onward yet, so I have no fucking clue besides fanfic and small snippets on how these kids behave-
Be kind please-

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Shirou.”

Soft shaking followed the call.

“Shirou.”

There was added weight to the mattress he slept on. Along with three others.

“Come on, dad!” A louder voice tried to call him from slumber.

“Don't worry, he'll wake up soon!” A third loud voice appeared.

“With you two, definitely.”

Fubuki chuckled in his newly awakened state. His boys were overly energetic this early in the morning.

“Shirou. It's 9:30,” his husband called for him. “We let you sleep long enough.” Okay, so maybe it was a bit late.

“Daddy! Wake up!” The exclamation was followed by a pillow to the face and a weight on his stomach. The wind was knocked right out of him.

“Kaida!”

Fubuki laughed as he heard Someoka start scolding their youngest member. The boys were probably too shocked to say anything. Meaning he'd have to be the one to save his little dragon.

“Okay, I'm awake. Stop scolding my little girl, Ryuugo." Fubuki removed the pillow from his face, smiling at the picture that met him.

Yukimura was the one closest to him (without being on him) and was snickering at what happened. The teen could always laugh when it wasn't him who was in trouble. Nishiki was at the foot of the bed and had a camera in his hand, probably to film for another family video in the album. He seemed unsure if he should stop or not, though. But he waved excitedly when his dad smiled at him. He then turned to the other two people on the bed. The largest and smallest of the bunch

His husband frowned at him. “Shirou, she can't just jump on you like that.”

“My little girl can do whatever she pleases,” the gray-haired man said as he sat up and pulled Kaida into a hug.

“You are the reason she'll be spoiled. She already thinks she can get away with everything.” Someoka crossed his arms at the two.

Fubuki didn't really care what his husband had to say about it. He was the same, if not even worse, and they all knew it. He just wanted to keep a reputation (which everyone knows he lost long ago) for being serious and mature. Fubuki just ignored his husband and tickled his daughter to make her giggle.

“Who's the best little dragon in the world, hm?” Fubuki asked as he continued to cuddle Kaida.

“Me!” she exclaimed while throwing her hands in the air. Everyone smiled at the display.

“And who's the birthday guy?” asked Yukimura, taking his sister from their dad.

“Daddy!”

Fubuki froze for a moment before looking at the date on the calendar. A gentle smile formed on his lips slowly. “Hmm, it seems it is. Time goes by fast.”

Someoka leaned in to give his husband a kiss on the cheek. “Happy birthday, Shirou."

Fubuki looked over at him and smiled. “Thank you.”

“Shall we go to the birthday breakfast now?” Nishiki asked, grinning now that the awkward moment was over, gaining everyone's attention. Fubuki's eyes widened a bit at the phrase.

“How about you guys go make sure everything is okay, and I make sure your dad gets ready?” Someoka said, noticing his husband's expression.

Hyouga scrunched his nose. “That best not be a euphemism for something.” Someoka slapped him on the back of the head. “Hey!”

“What's a you-fem-mism?” Kaida asked her brother with a tilted head.

Nishiki then grabbed his sister from him. “It's a boring term you learn about in school. For now, let's go and follow through with papa's quest!"

“Yeah! Quest!” The little girl cheered as Nishiki carried her out, dragging a struggling Yukimura behind him.

“Birthday breakfast?” Fubuki asked, the term familiar. He used it before. Before the...

Someoka smiled as he helped him get out of bed. “Yeah. You mentioned it the other night, and we wanted to surprise you.” He rubbed his shoulder now that he was standing in front of him. “Why stop the tradition when you have a family to continue it with?"

Fubuki stared at him for a moment before his eyes turned glassy. His husband already had his hand on his cheek when the first tear fell, ready to wipe all of them away. He pulled him in for a hug. While never one for public affection, in private, it was a different ordeal. He would always hold his husband when it was just them and their little family. But when Fubuki got like this, when the world got to him, he'd make sure no one could disturb them as he held him closer than ever. He'd wipe away all the tears, let him cry it out, and help him pick up the pieces. This moment was just for them. Someoka knew Fubuki didn't want anyone to see him break, a small habit that still stayed from when they were young. But he'd always been allowed, always been there to calm him. And he always would.

When he felt Fubuki's sniffles turn into light laughter, he knew he could pull back. He looked at his husband's grateful face. “Happy birthday.”

Fubuki smiled gently. “It might just be one of my favorites.”

Someoka raised his eyebrow. “And what are the others?”

A hand slowly ran down his arm to hold his hand. “The first is when you asked me to marry you.” Fubuki raised their joined hands to kiss his husband's ring. Someoka blushed a bit, still not used to how gentle and affectionate Fubuki could be. “And the other is when we finally adopted Kaida and our little family was complete.”

Someoka chuckled. “This would be number 3 then?”

Fubuki smiled and nodded.

“Well, then. Go get ready. The day only started, and we don't want to miss breakfast today,” he gently shoved Fubuki towards their private bathroom. “We have a lot planned.”

“And what would that be?” Fubuki asked as he went to dress up.

“That would be spoiling the fun. I thought we didn't like that in this house.” Someoka opened the drawer next to his side of the bed. He pulled out a small box with a blue bow.

“But Ryuugo, I'm your husband. Surely I can have a sneak peek?”

The dragon striker chuckled at his antics. “You can have one when you get dressed.”

It wasn't even a minute later that Fubuki stepped out of the bathroom and skipped over to Ryuugo. “I'm all ears.”

Someoka laughed a bit more before handing him the present. “Here. Open it. Your first gift of the day.”

Fubuki gently took it and tried (failed) to open it slowly so his excitement didn't show. Once he saw what was inside, he gasped delightedly and cooed. He lifted a silver necklace from the box. The necklace itself was simple; it was the pendant that was absolutely stunning, with a dragon wrapping itself around a heart. On one side of the heart was a blue jewel where the dragon's head lay; the other was clear, smooth silver.

“Oh, Ryuugo...”

“It also opens,” Someoka said as he showed him how to open it.

And Fubuki nearly cried again. On the inside, there was a picture of their whole little family that was taken when Kaida was officially adopted. The small girl, only 2 back then and with no actual name to her until then, was grinning in her papa's arms as Shirou leaned his head on his shoulder, smiling that closed-eyed smile of his. Someoka himself was looking at the camera with a gentle smile of his own. Nishiki and Yukimura both had grins on their faces, bright smiles that could rival the sun. They were standing on each side of the parents, trying to get their new sister's attention in hopes of being the favorite brother. It was one of the best days of Fubuki's life.

“I already cried once today,” he said while gently cradling the necklace in his hands. He leaned on Someoka for a moment, both of them admiring the necklace.

“Want me to put it on you?” Someoka asked softly.

Fubuki gently closed the pendant. He looked at him and held out the necklace. “Please?”

It took Someoka a moment to correctly put the necklace on, his fingers a bit big for the clasp. But when he did, he immediately looked at Fubuki.

“How does it look?” the gray-haired man asked.

His husband looked at him lovingly. “Like it belongs there.”

Fubuki grinned and kissed him. And then again. And again. Before the kisses could escalate into a make-out session, a small voice interrupted them.

“Daddy! Papa! Come on! We're waiting!”

They separated to see their little dragon with her hands on her hips, glaring sassily from the doorway. They laughed at the display. Fubuki was the first one to pull away.

“Sounds like someone is jealous that I'm not giving her kisses,” Fubuki said as he slowly crept up to his daughter. “Shall I make up for it?” He put his hands up as if he were a monster.

Kaida gasped, knowing a chase was about to begin. “Daddy no!” She started running in the direction of the kitchen.

Fubuki could hear Someoka's laugh from the bedroom as he ran after their daughter. He almost caught her in the living room before he stopped.

“Happy birthday!” Many loud voices and a few calm ones came from before him.

Fubuki stared wide-eyed. At least half of Inazuma Japan was in his living room. Gifts were everywhere, birthday decorations were set up along with the Christmas ones, and there was the smell of a well-cooked meal coming from the kitchen. He took a minute to take in all the smiling faces.

“I... why's everyone here?” Fubuki asked.

“Someoka told us about your birthday breakfast tradition!” Endou exclaimed where he was standing with his two-year-old Haru on his shoulders.

Gouenji smirked from the doorway to the kitchen. “And you know how Endou is? We're all a big happy family.”

“And family celebrates together!” Endou finished for him.

An arm wrapped around his shoulders as he was pulled into a side hug by his husband. Fubuki turned his head to look at him. Someoka rubbed his neck sheepishly. “I thought it'd be nice if you could celebrate with everyone. They came early today to help set up.”

Fubuki felt he might cry again. When did he acquire such caring loved ones?

“Everyone... I...” He looked all around the room at all the faces that had been with him since he was 14. The faces that accepted him despite his shortcomings and supported him through everything. He had so much emotion in his tone when he finally spoke. “Thank you.”

Otonashi giggled. “You don't need to thank us at all. It's the least we can do for your birthday."

Then a voice, probably Fudou's, came from the kitchen. “Are y'all just gonna be sappy over there, or will you finally come eat the breakfast that Tobitaka and I slaved over for this? Food's getting cold!”

Kidou sighed at him while pinching the bridge of his nose. “Can you have a bit more tact?”

“Who, Fudou?” Tobitaka's voice answered. “When has he ever had tact?”

Everyone laughed at the squable that followed. But they did all start going into the kitchen to finally eat now that Fubuki was awake. Someoka tried to guide his husband with him, but Fubuki stayed in place.

“Shirou?” The pink-haired man frowned.

Fubuki just smiled. “You go on ahead. I need a minute to take everything in.”

Someoka nodded and gave a small peck to Shirou's forehead. “Join when you're ready.”

Fubuki was left alone in the living room. He looked around again when he heard a familiar voice in his mind.

Ugh, sappy. Too sappy.

Shirou chuckled. “Really, Atsuya?”

I'm just saying. This shit is too sweet for my taste.

Shirou hummed. “Wanna come out?”

Nah, I don't feel like people today.

“You'll come for the cake when everyone leaves, won't you?”

Abso-fucking-lutely.

Shirou laughed out loud. “I'll make sure Ryouma doesn't eat it all.”

Good. Brat will get it if he does.

Shirou rolled his eyes at his brother's antics. He knew he could never actually be at his nephew. He never was. He loved the kids too much to ever be angry at them. “Well then, I'll leave you to relax and observe.” He started to make his own way to the kitchen.

Yeah, yeah. And happy birthday.

Shirou smiled. “Happy birthday to you too, Atsuya.”

After saying that, he entered the kitchen, where all his favorite breakfast meals were waiting for him.

“Daddy, sit here!” His little girl took him by the hand and sat him down at the head of the table. Fubuki smiled and picked his little girl up to sit in his lap.

“Only if you sit with me,” he said, chuckling at her immediate agreement, happy to eat with her dad on his special day.

And as Fubuki ate, he looked around and smiled gently. It had been so long ago when his last celebratory birthday breakfast happened. Where he and Atsuya got to spend time with the family, eating their favorite foods with decorations, gifts, and laughter everywhere. Where the cake came immediately because the rest of the day would be spent outside, playing in the snow, going into town, and having fun in any spontaneous way they could think of. To most, it was a simple way to celebrate, but to him, it meant the world.

And when they started singing the birthday song because the youngest kids forced them to, Fubuki felt tears appear for the fourth time that morning. He didn't cry, though. He just grinned happily. The cake with 28 candles was placed in front of him, and all he could think about was one wish he would make.

He blew out the candles with the wish in mind.

I wish to enjoy more birthdays like this with my family, friends, and loved ones for years to come.
