Work Text:
Rollo must have expected some something unforeseen in the plan he made but he did not think his would take the name of (Y/n). She was only supposed to be an assistant sent by Headmaster Crowley to support Professor Trein, why was she now such an impediment to him?
When he had first seen her, with Grim, her familiar, she had immediately attracted his attention. So small and frail, with those sweet and cute attitudes and above all without any magical power. She had not gone unnoticed by him. But now she was being his biggest problem.
«President Flamme», his vice called him.
«Yes?» he replied without taking his eyes off the little girl who was dancing happily in the middle of the lascivious celebrations, with her schoolmates.
«Why don't you take part in the dances? You're just observing ».
Rollo was about to answer him, with a certain tone of disgust, but the assistant preceded him with a playful smile.
«The president is not observing the dances», then he lowered his tone, trying not to be heard by the person concerned, «look carefully where his eyes are going. He's been staring at the girl from Night Raven College for a while now».
But Rollo heard and jumped irritably.
«Watch your mouth! I am not staring at anyone. Mine are, as your colleague said, mere observations» he scolded him, with a severe look.
The assistant was not dissuaded by his opinion.
«Come on, President! You can’t deny that the girl has piqued your interest! » he smiled at him, hiding behind his eyes a spark of shrewdness, acting like someone who is always on his side, but still knowing how to show him what is evident.
«Nonsense! », Rollo concluded haughtily, collapsing on the wooden table next to which he had been sitting, and started pocking his forefinger on his cheek.
Yet the two did not stop talking about him, whispering.
«Really? Is the president interested in the girl? », the vice president was amazed, as he had not noticed anything.
«Of course! When they are in the same place, he can’t stop staring at her! I think he even fell in love with her», he sneered.
«Enough! Stop it or you will receive harsh punishments», he interjected once again as he had not been able to avoid listening.
They fell silent, so he sat back leaning to one side.
«Me, in love! », he muttered, «I have never heard a greater nonsense than this! »
The forefinger pocked faster, even more nervously than before. Such nonsense drove him crazy.
(Y/n) managed to calm him down, but after a distracted patrol, his eyes lied on her once again. She was really enjoying the feast, in her soft dress and with the mask on her face. Although he despised what she was doing, amid those childish and foolish wizards who consumed their magic and exalted those who did not have magical skills, he could not help being fascinated. Beautiful. She was so beautiful even though she wore the ornament that covered the area around her eyes and in spite of being blinded by the distorted view of normality of those around her. She swayed here and there following the music, smiling and laughing. Beautiful, although he did not accept what she was doing. So much that a slight smile peeped out the President's lips, barely visible.
Everything was going well, he had relaxed and was even getting carried away with the festivities, until she approached him: Malleus Draconia. They were dancing together, holding their hands at times. He was treating her with such delicacy, and in return she was showing him her beautiful smile, all for him.
The vision, absurdly, was triggering a bad feeling. He felt the blood boiling in his veins, his eyelids thinned until his vision was reduced to two slits and his lips tightened, almost disappearing. He could not put a name to that feeling, but it gave him one more reason to want to eradicate Malleus of the Draconia’s bloodline and all wizards from existence.
While his mind was obscured by bad thoughts, Rollo thought of going back to stare (Y/n), hoping to calm down, but this time the trick did not work, rather it worsen the situation.
Delicate and graceful, she was dancing with the fairy and this annoyed him. Why could not be him the person to whom she stood beside? Why Malleus? Why not him? He was far more lawful and righter than anyone else! His heart felt so hollow at the thought of being able to hold her hand, why could not it be reality?
The blood was burning in his body and his hands gripped the edge of the bench in anger.
That girl was dangerous for him, she was driving him crazy and taking his mind off his mission. He had to stay focused. She was an inconvenience, a big inconvenience, a really huge one. He had to stand by his cause. He would act the night after the festivities as planned, and she… she would have to be distanced like the others. She was too dangerous to let her climb the bell tower with him in the hope that she would give him her attention and her smile. After the fourth toll, she would have never agreed to go with him, it would have been a vain illusion, so he might as well act quickly and stick to the original plan he had been meticulously preparing for so long. Distancing and abandoning her in the crimson-tinged city would have been less painful for his heart.
