Summary
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi left Tatooine without nine-year-old Anakin Skywalker, despite Qui-Gon’s desire to take him back to the Jedi Temple and train him. Left with his mother and Watto on the desolate planet, Anakin throws his anger and disappointment into his podracing, becoming a champion racer and winning enough money to buy his and his mother’s freedom. By age fifteen, he had opened his own mechanic’s shop. Meanwhile, Naboo managed to come through the invasion by the Trade Federation, and Qui-Gon Jinn was killed by Darth Maul. Now, ten years later, tensions are high in the Republic, and civil war is on the horizon. Anakin Skywalker is about to find himself thrown into the midst of events that will plunge the Republic into war and will test his control and the balance he has struck in himself.
