Work Text:

Namjoon bounced the two year old on his lap as the city passed in a blur. Seokjin turned sideways looking at his husband and son who were having a cute moment together.

“Eyes on road, hyung.” Namjoon said, hugging Jungkook to his chest. The toddler put his head on daddy’s chest without any fuss. He babbled something in his baby language which felt warm in Namjoon’s ears.

“You both are enjoying it too much, I missed kookie today.” Seokjin said, reaching out to grab Namjoon’s fingers.

“I missed him too. I am glad Taehyung and Jimin took him in for today. I hate leaving him in day care.” Namjoon said, getting out of the car.

After washing up and changing, the family sat down in the living room for some snacks. Seokjin put a plate with mochi and steak chips on the table. Namjoon put Jungkook in his high chair as he put some strawberries and blueberries in front of him.

Both men cooed as the toddler ate berries happily making gurgling sounds. Jungkook was not a fussy baby and loved his dads so much. Seokjin wiped the toddler’s face when he was done. He lifted his son in his arms and offered him his favourite banana milk.

“Kookie, you were so good for your Tae and Minnie uncles. This is your reward.” Seokjin says smiling. Jungkook looks at the yellow carton and up at his dada. His eyes fill up with tears and he starts sniffing.

“Baby, what’s wrong? You love banana milk, right?” SeoKjin said worried as he put the carton down on the table. Namjoon stood up, his hands rubbing the toddler's back. He shared a look with his confused husband.

“Bunny, you don’t want banana milk, that’s fine.” Namjoon tried but the toddler started to cry harder.

“Okay okay, what’s wrong baby, tell your dads.” Seokjin tried but the toddler kept on crying. He held his son close, petting his back to calm him down.

“Bunny, let’s play.” Namjoon said, holding out a carrot soft toy to distract the toddler. Jungkook looked up from Seokjin’s shoulder and took the toy, hugging it close.

After ten minutes Jungkook calmed down, distracted by his soft toys. Namjoon and Seokjin sat on a rug next to his son playing with him.

“Dada cherry.” toddler said waving the cherry pulsie at Seokjin’s face. “Yeah baby, that’s cherry, do you want cherry?”

“Nuh.. bun bun wants.” Jungkook said pointing at his bunny soft toy. “What about you bunny?” Namjoon asked, smiling as he lifted the toddler up. He walked to the kitchen area and put some cherries on the hands of his palm.

Jungkook munched on them happily. Seokjin walked closer to his family and said,”I will start the dinner preparation.” He took the banana milk carton from the counter to put it back into the fridge.

He noticed Jungkook looking at it sadly but didn’t ask for it. It was killing Seokjin to see his toddler so distressed about his favourite banana milk. He put it back into the fridge not wanting to upset his baby again.

Namjoon cooed at Jungkook who put his head on his daddy’s shoulder chewing on the last cherry. “He is still upset about that milk.” Seokjin said softly. Namjoon looked at his husband,”We will figure it out, hyung.”

Seokjin pecked Namjoon’s lips, he liked how Namjoon always stayed hopeful and tried to look at the brighter side. He remembered how scared Namjoon was when they brought Jungkook home from the hospital. He was afraid to hold the baby thinking he might get hurt. It took lots of persuasion from Seokjin for Namjoon to hold the baby but once he did it, he hated to put the little thing down.

“Hyung.” Seokjin came back into reality at his husband’s words. “Yeah.” he answered.

“Where is Kookie's bunny t-shirt? He got a cherry on his shirt, I am going to change him.” Namjoon asked, holding their son.

“Oh, that’s in the lower drawer.” Seokjin said taking out vegetables from the fridge. He started to cook and soon, his husband joined him in the kitchen trying to help with the dinner. Jungkook was content in his playpen playing with his stuffed animal set.

“That was unexpected.” Namjoon said as he put onions in the chopper.
“Yes, he is refusing to have banana milk, he loves it. I don’t understand, if he doesn’t want it, he can say it but he cried looking at it.” Seokjin said chopping ginger.
“Let’s just forget about banana milk till he is calm.” Namjoon suggests and Seokjin nods.

“Dada, daddy… out.” toddler said when husbands were setting the table for dinner. Seokjin walked to the playpen and lifted the toddler in his arms. Jungkook still had a small panda toy clutched in his bands.

“I don’t think panda wants dinner right now, let’s put it down for a nap.” Seokjin said putting panda back with other toys. Jungkook didn’t protest when his dada put him in his high chair.

Dinner went on with Jungkook’s gurgles and husbands small talk. Once they were ready for bed, Seokjin put his son on his lap facing him.

“Kookie, baby, why aren’t you having banana milk? Bananas are really sad that their favourite boy is refusing to have them.” Seokjin asked and Jungkook’s eyes watered.

“Hey, bunny, no tears, we just want to know. If you don’t want to have banana milk anymore, we can give them to your uncle Jimin.” Namjoon said, making Jungkook sob. Seokjin shushed Jungkook, refusing to end the conversation even though Namjoon’s eyes told him to finish this. He didn’t like seeing Jungkook in distress and he was determined to find an answer.

“Tell me baby, what’s wrong? Me and Daddy will make it better.” Seokjin said, wiping tears from round cheeks. “Unca Tae said, bunnies no have nana milk. Mon’ters come when bunny have nana milk. Kookie no want mon’ters” Jungkook explained.

“No baby that’s…” Seokjin tried to find words to convince his son who was still crying. Namjoon took the toddler onto his lap.

“Bunny uncle Tae didn’t mean it like that. He didn’t mean you, he meant bun bun, your bunny toy.” Namjoon said. Jungkook stared at him with big bambi eyes, “Not me bunny?” he asked.

“Yes Kookie, he meant bun bun. He can’t have your banana milk.” Seokjin added, trying to assure the two year old.

“Unca Tae is silly, bun bun is a toy, can’t have food.” Jungkook said, pouting as Seokjin wipes his tears away. “Kookie can have nana milk? No Mon’ters?” the toddler asked, looking at his parents.

“Yes bunny.”
“Yes kookie, no monsters.”

Both said to their son.

“Wan nana milk now.” Jungkook demanded. Namjoon kissed toddler’s head and handed him to Seokjin who cuddled the boy close.

“Coming right up, bunny.” Namjoon said as he went to pick a carton for his son.

After having his favourite drink and brushing teeth, Jungkook fell asleep.

They closed the door of their son’s room and went to their room.
“I am going to kill Tae.” Namjoon said, his brows furrowing. “I am with you Joon, nobody makes kookie cry.” Seokjin said.

Tae swore he wouldn't fill Kookie’s innocent mind with these things after they had a lectureship of 2 hours with him.
