Wrapped in the mood

Summary:

The rain has been pouring down for days, clearly autumn weather, and it is pelting them with full force. Kristoff is glad that it's Friday evening and the weekend is beckoning to relax and put his feet up. After a hectic week, there is nothing better than spending some quality time indoors with his fiancée, spending an afternoon without getting soaked.

Notes:

This is part of the kristanna-school days fic “The principal time is now” (part I of the series "principalities"). Kristoff and Anna are engaged, living at Arendelle Boarding school where Anna is assistant principal and Kristoff is the caretaker. Sven is Kristoff´s dog. Anna has meanwhile moved into Kristoff´s little house next to the main building.

Knowing this, you can easily read this as a standalone.

Anna sits cross-legged on the sofa, her hands rapidly knitting an enormous shawl.

Kristoff sits next to her, a cup of coffee in his hand, enjoying the quiet moment, with the clicking of the needles the only sound echoing through the room. Except for Sven, who snores peacefully on his mat beside the sofa. The sound of soft raindrops on the patio door completes the cosy moment, and Kristoff reclines on the sofa with a contented sigh.

"Are you all right, darling?" Anna stops in her tracks and looks at him with that glint in her eye that makes him feel like they are the only people on the planet. And he likes the thought. Not that he dislikes his work and the school team. But time alone with Anna is something he has dreamed of all his life, and she makes his home perfect.

He tilts his head lazily to cast a sideways glance in her direction. Only then does he notice her eyes, shadowed with fatigue. He turns in his seat and reaches out to cup her cheek, running his thumb along her jawline.

"Could it be that you work too much? You look tired."

"So do you." Anna shrugs and leans her head into his palm. "I'm glad you decided to stay inside and postpone digging up the compost heap."

Kristoff laughs and feigns a shiver. "Bah, not in this weather. I want to keep my lungs intact."

"Exactly." Anna puffs out her chest. "But don't worry, I'll make sure you stay warm and cosy, whatever the weather."

"What's that?" Kristoff closes his eyes at the word snuggly.... Just then he notices something woolly wrapped around his neck. When he opens his eyes, he sees that Anna has pulled him in with her knitting project.

"I wonder what this is?" He grins and then sits up as Anna kneels beside him, wrapping the overlong shawl around his neck, a long part of it still dangling down to the floor.

"This is a partner shawl, or a shawl that keeps you warm down to your bones." Anna explains proudly.

"Ugh?" Kristoff takes the long part in his hands and studies the fine dark green colour.

"Yes. You know. You can not only wrap it around your neck, but also around your body. Or we can wrap it in a partner look." With that, Anna jumps a little closer and starts to wrap the rest around her neck.

Kristoff stares at her face, only centimetres away from his, and he suddenly feels strangled, cut off in his movements. But Anna's eyes sparkle with excitement and he's not sure if the warmth spreading through him is from the thick layer of wool around his neck or the sudden urge to kiss this lovely girl. Only that the whole mass of wool prevents him from reaching out to catch her lips.

"Anna, this is a super sweet and overly caring idea of yours. But to be honest, I'm suffocating in here."

"Oh, sorry." Anna giggles, rushes to unwrap it and piles the woollen shawl on the sofa next to her. But then Kristoff puts an arm around her and pulls her close for the kiss he feels is appropriate at the moment.

They stay cuddled for the rest of the afternoon, only to get up lazily to prepare something for dinner. Sven must go out and they hurry, bundled up in raincoats and boots, to take the dog for a proper walk.

Back at home, they decide it's time to get ready for a good movie night, and while Kristoff prepares some snacks and drinks, Anna rushes to put on her pyjamas and slippers. She hops on the sofa, cross-legged, and is ready for an exciting movie time, when Kristoff decides to put on his pyjamas as well.

When he comes back, Anna giggles and cuddles up next to him. "If Elsa could see us."

"Why? Doesn't she like to cuddle with Hans on the sofa? What's so funny about that?"

"Oh, she'd cuddle, for sure. But not like this." And with that, Anna reaches for the shawl that's still huddled on the sofa and starts to wrap it around their necks, again.

"My goodness, Anna. I can't breathe."

"Okay, but if it gets scary, don't come whining and crawling under my shirt." Anna laughs and fiddles with the loose end of the shawl dangling from Kristoff's chest.

"Alright! Fair enough. But if you get scared, please don't pull on that thing, otherwise I'll die". He grins at her.

Anna sticks out her tongue and huffs. "What's on anyway?"

"Hang on." Kristoff reaches for the remote, groaning as Anna leans in, attached to his chest. He turns on the TV and scrolls through the list. "Ah, there, look!" He smacks his lips. "Just the movie for two people stuck together with no way to escape each other's bite."

"Haha, very funny." Anna sulks and pokes him in the ribs.

"Hey! It's not my fault they show [Rec] when you're tied to my neck.

"Fair enough. But it's so comfortable." Anna whimpers.

"Yes, it is." Kristoff pulls her closer, which is unnecessary since she's almost crawling into his lap. "In case you do get scared, you can always bury your face in this huge shawl!"

"Or you can kiss me instead." Anna giggles.

"Or I could kiss you instead." Kristoff sighs and leans down to press his lips to hers.

Notes:

For those who are wondering about the movie [Rec]... I have not seen it, only read about the plot... certainly nothing for under 16 years old to watch... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rec_(film)
