“Mermaid,” John replies, instantly, as if he doesn’t even have to think about it. And, fair enough, it’s a very badass answer. Frenchie kind of wishes he’d thought of it, even though he’s not completely sure that it counts.
“Are mermaids a kind of fish?”
“Yes.”
“Oh, okay.” Frenchie squirms a bit in the hammock, gets properly comfy. “I’d be a shark.”
“A shark? Nice. How come?”
“Cos sharks are fucking terrifying. They’ve got knives in their mouths.”
“Good point. Maybe I’d be a mershark, then we could be friends.”
