Light stepped out of his room and into the hallway he shared with his little sister. He fidgeted around at his costume, picking and pulling at parts of the fabric that was bunching up. He froze still when he heard his sister's door opening. Sayu stepped out dressed in the matching half to Light's costume. She was an angel, almost shining in the hallway's bright lights, the picture of innocence. Her beautiful white, flowy dress was just barely grazing the floor. The sleeves were a pretty and wide, and resembled wings. Her hair was done in a half up half down style with the ends curled. She met his eyes, and on her face was the biggest grin he'd ever seen.
"Light! Look at us! We match!" She squealed.
She giggled and smiled even more, something he didn't realize was possible. He couldn't help but return her smile, (though not as big).
"Yeah, we do. You look nice, Sayu."
His costume was the devil to his sister's devil. He had on a red, silky dress shirt, with a crimson blazer and matching pants. His tie was black and silky as well. He had a black belt, which according to him was the tail. He wasn't about to go around wearing an actual tail, now, be serious. He has a red headband, with two little nubs as horns.
He flashed her his signature grin and held out his hand for her to hold. She eagerly accepted it and they made their way to the door. His mom quickly appeared in front of the door and took out her camera.
"Aww, mom, do we really have to? We'll be late and we'll miss out on all the good candy!" Sayu complained.
"Sayu, be patient. This won't take long, right Mom?" Light countered.
"Yes, dear. Now hold still and smile! Oh, you both just look so adorable!" Sachiko exclaimed.
She gave them both a kiss on the cheek and a warm hug and sent them on their way.
"Have fun, you two!" She waved them off.
They made their way down the sidewalk and arrived at their first house. Sayu excitedly knocked on the door.
"Trick or Treat!" She held out her little pumpkin expectantly.
"Happy Halloween! Oh, you both look so cute, dears. Here you go!" The old woman gave them both quite the handful of candy. The expensive kind too, at that. Light was pleased by the fact.
A large decoration hanging in the yard in front of them caught a certain eye.
"Light, Light, look! There's a giant skeleton in front of that house!" Sayu jumped energetically.
Light couldn't hold back his response, "Yes, Sayu, I can see it too." He rolled his eyes at his sister's antics, yet he smiled fondly as she dragged him from house to house.
As their night was reaching an end, Light and Sayu sat at the edge of a sidewalk. They were counting through all the houses they went to, the candy they got there, and the people handing them out.
"Can you believe he only gave us 1 tiny bar? Who even does that?!" Sayu was rambling on about some guy not giving them the proper amount of candy.
His mind, however, was focused on other things. He would attend To Oh University soon. No more Halloween nights spent trick or treating with Sayu or taking her to the mall on weekends. No more movie nights spent laughing at how cheesy the main characters were, no more comforting her after a bad dream. He thought about the girl sitting beside him, one he saw grow from that small, adorable baby to the lovely young lady he knew now. Oh, how he'd miss his sister. As much as he would like pretending he didn't care for his family, he truly did.
He smiled down at his sister and held her tight in a side hug.
"Happy Halloween, Sayu. I love you."
