Lucy’s Fierce Protector

Summary:

Five times Tim wakes up to Lucy having a nightmare and one time he woke up to something different.

Notes:

Day 5 of Flufftober!

This idea came to me. I always feel the show put Lucy’s trauma away like it was nothing. Enjoy!

Work Text:

The first time Tim helps her through a nightmare is a week after Jackson dies. When he was in Guatemala, she stayed at her apartment. As soon as he got back, she asked to stay with him. It was too hard to be in her apartment. She needed Tim’s comfort, although she would never admit that to him. He can tell she hasn’t been sleeping so he insists she takes his bed and she does. She is so tired. It takes him a while to fall asleep, but he’s woken but screaming. He instantly jumps up and runs to his room. There he sees Lucy thrashing around yelling.

“No! Tim! No!” She yells. Tim walks in and gently shakes her awake.

“Lucy.” He says quietly as to not startle her. She wakes with a jump and sees Tim. She throws her arms around him.

“Oh Tim. I thought you were dead.” She says crying into his chest.

“I’m here Lucy. It was a nightmare.” He whispers into her hair as he holds her. “I’m not going anywhere.” He promises her. She won’t let go so he gently lays them back on the bed and they fall back asleep.

——

The second time Tim helps her through a nightmare is after trial prep. Between Chris singing the song and watching the video, she knows it will be a rough night. She broke up with Chris before she left the DA’s office. He made some comments and acted like her trauma was not important. She didn’t need anyone like that in her life, not that it was serious. Her heart belonged to someone else.

She pulled up outside of Tim’s house, hoping he was home and Ashley wasn’t around. She didn’t call, but she needed him. She started walking to the door. What are you doing Lucy? He has a girlfriend. She chastises herself in her head. She is almost to his door. She can see he isn’t home. She decides to use her spare key and goes in. She disarms the house and goes to the couch.

She knows she should go home, but she can’t bring herself to. She lays down and falls asleep instantly.

Lucy is stuck. It’s dark and the only thing she sees is the flashing red light from the camera. She yells for Tim. She’s scared. The air is getting thinner and she can’t breathe. Her chest is tight. “Tim” she screams. She tries to claw her way out, but she can’t get out. She’s stuck. She’s going to die. She’ll never see Tim again. She’ll never see Nyla, Angela, John or anyone else again.

Lucy feels hands on her, but she can’t see them. She hears her name and she jolts awake. Tim’s in front of her and she falls into his arms crying. “Shhh I’ve got you Lucy.” She feels his hand on her back.

“I’m sorry Tim. I let myself in, I couldn’t be alone. I broke up with Chris. He sang the song because it was “stuck in his head.” He watched the video so much.” Tim says nothing, just brings her to his room. She can’t move. He helps her into his clothes as best he can while his eyes are closed. He brings her into his bed and she falls asleep close to him. “I’ve got you Luce.” He whispers in her ear.

The third time Tim helps her through a nightmare, they are finally together. She hasn’t had one since they got together almost a year ago. She sleeps better with Tim by her side. Today she could have lost him when they were fighting those masked men. Aaron could have died. They’re back at Tim’s house for the night. He pulls her in for a hug and kisses her head softly. He wipes the tears away.

They go to his room and she puts his shirt on, one of his metro ones that smell just like him. She climbs into bed and throws herself on Tim once he does. She quickly falls asleep.

Lucy and Tim are fighting the masked men. They won’t stop coming after them. They fight their way through as a team. Tim pushes her in the building so she won’t get hurt. Lucy is screaming as Nolan holds her back and Tim is attacked by them all at once. “Tim!” She screams. She can’t get to him. She finally gets away and goes to find Tim. All she finds is his lifeless body laying on the ground. “No Tim! I love you. Come back to me. Tim!”

She wakes up screaming and Tim is holding her gently. He’s whispering in her ear to help calm down. “I’m right here baby. I’m not going anywhere.” She finally calms down.

“They got you Tim. You pushed me inside and they killed you. I can’t lose you. I love you Tim. You’re the love of my life.” She cries out.

He’s staring at her and brings her in for a gentle kiss. “I love you baby. More than I could ever put into words.” Tim wraps his arms around her and she starts calming down. Tim’s okay. She repeats in her head. She finally falls back asleep and in the morning he brings her breakfast in bed to remind her how much he loves her.

“I’m sorry I wake you up with my nightmares.” She says quietly.

“Luce, baby. I want to be the one here for you. I always will be. I promise.” He takes her face in his hands and kisses her hard. “I’ll always be here. You can always wake me up.”

——

The fourth time Tim helps her through a nightmare is right after they got married. She stopped UC after the attack on Aaron and became a kick ass detective working alongside Angela. She hasn’t had any nightmares since then and for that she’s grateful.

Today was horrible. Lucy thought her husband was dead. Tim was called in on a difficult metro case. They were given wrong information and there were two more people than they thought inside. They knocked Tim out from behind and dragged him to a car. They managed to get him out of there before anyone noticed.

When Lucy heard her husband was missing, she moved mountains to find him. She was running on adrenaline all day and once they found him she grabbed him tightly.

He was beat up and bruised, but overall okay. The hospital cleared and released him. Lucy took him home, to their home. She got him settled in bed with his pain meds. Once she was sure he was asleep she took a long shower and headed to bed. She was scared to sleep. She was worried this was all a bad dream.

After fighting sleep, she finally nodded off. Her dreams were of Tim’s dead body. When she had nightmares, that is what it consisted of. Tim dead and she couldn’t do anything about it.

She woke up to Tim right in front of her with a pained look on his face. She just pushes herself into him and hugs him.

“I couldn’t wake up this time. You were dead again Tim. It was horrible.” She mumbled into his chest. “I tried to stay awake because I knew this would happen. I’m sorry baby. You’re hurt. I should be helping you.”

“Look at me Lucy.” Tim says in his TO sounding voice. “I don’t care if I’m hurt. All I care about is you’re okay. I’m so sorry you had another nightmare and I was the cause. I love you baby.”

“It’s not your fault Tim. I’m so scared of losing you and I thought I did today. I finally have you and I’m scared I’ll lose you.”

“Never baby.” He whispers. She lays down and he curls into her from behind. “It’s you and me baby.” She feels him drift off and she lays there until the sun rises.

——

The fifth time Tim helps Lucy through a nightmare is after she was held hostage by a victim. She’s been working this case day in and day out, but she’s not closing to finding the one responsible. The victim is angry and scared. Lucy went to speak with them and they are holding a gun to her head. It takes hours, but she’s finally able to break free.

She runs out and falls into Angela’s arms. They wouldn’t allow Tim down here because it’s his wife. Lucy is sobbing for Tim. Angela puts her in the car and brings her back to the station. She leads her inside to Tim’s office where Tim has his head in his hands.

He looks up when he hears his door open and runs to Lucy. “Oh baby. Thank god. Thank you Ange.” She walks away and Tim looks at Lucy.

“Are you okay baby? Are you hurt?” He asks looking all over her. “I’m okay. Can we go home please?” She manages to say.

He puts his arm around her and takes her home. He grabs food and they eat in silence. They shower together and he puts her (his) favorite shirt on and a clean pair of panties. He has a feeling it will be a rough night. He gets into bed and pulls her to him.

“I love you baby. You’re okay. Get some sleep.” He whispers. He feels her fall asleep, but he can’t fall asleep. It’s not even an hour later and she starts shaking in his arms. The sheer panic on her face, even though she’s sleeping, scared him. He starts off gently. “Luce. It’s Tim.” She starts thrashing and screaming. He finally coaxes her awake and holds her.

“Tim I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.” She says over and over.

“It’s not your fault baby.”

“It’s not that Tim. Today could have been worse. I need to tell you something. I wanted to surprise you, but I can’t wait.” She whispers so quietly and sounds so scared.

“Hey baby it’s okay. Whatever it is.”

She starts crying. “I took a test this morning Tim. I’m pregnant.”

He is shocked. Then reality sets in. He could have lost his wife and child. He wouldn’t have known.

“You didn’t know Luce. It’s not your fault.” He says and places one hand on her face and the other on her belly. I’m going to be a dad.” He whispers.

“The best daddy. You’re the best husband already. We are so lucky to have you baby.” She kisses him gently. “Thank you for being here. I’m so sorry. I can’t believe I could have hurt our baby.” She murmurs.

“No this isn’t your fault. You’re both safe.” He lays down his hand never leaving her belly. She falls back to sleep and he finally drifts off dreaming of the future.

The one time he doesn’t wake up to Lucy having a nightmare is the night he wakes up alone. He goes looking for his wife and finds her in their daughters nursery. Zoe came into this world just six short weeks ago, but she is the light of her parents life.

He doesn’t walk in quite yet. He knows Lucy’s sitting in the chair they spent months picking out feeding their daughter. He can hear her talking to her.

“Hi my angel.” She whispers. “You have the best daddy in the world. He will always be here for you no matter what. He’s helped mama through so many things. You are the luckiest girl to have him.” She whispers sweetly into her daughters hair.

“I’m the lucky one.” Tim makes himself known. “Thank you baby. For giving me everything I could ever ask for. He wraps his hands around Lucy and rubs his hand over his daughters head.

The nightmares aren’t as frequent, but when they come, Tim’s always by her side. Zoe has bad dreams and always cuddles up to daddy to keep the monsters away.
