Summary
Despite how much the monster stands out, he also looks as if there’s not a place in the world in which his presence would be more correct. He’s technically the same colour as the jungle around him, but for those striking violet eyes which track now a butterfly, now a warbling bird, now a long-legged creature skating over the water, before sliding closed again to enjoy the feeling of the sun – and even the suggestion of a sharply contrasting lilac against the verdigris is reminiscent of a beautiful, blooming flower in a sea of green. The shifting pattern of light on his scales is not so different from the way the sun dances across the surface of the river.
Damien’s mouth is dry with anticipation. To be so close to his quarry; to observe so keenly the rippling muscles in four arms as the creature turns; to be struck, at this distance, by how truly inhuman he is… it certainly stirs something inside of him.Series
