Notes:

Little note, I have a problem reading and writing. Though I look over my work before posting, I sometimes miss mistakes while editing. If you see any grammar mistakes, I have no problem if you let me know and I'm happy when people tell me I made a mistake. I see it as a way to get better at writing. Anyway, enjoy my story!

Work Text:

David never thought he would fall in love again, let alone in this hell-like place but he was wrong. It all started in a trial. David was in the trial with Yun-Jin, Mikaela, and Dwight against the Trickster. Unfortunately, this trial wasn’t going well. Mikaela was killed after the second generator was done, and both Dwight and Yun-Jin were hooked twice. It also didn’t help that they were in the realm of Raccoon City Police Department and Trickster had trick blades that bounced off the narrow walls of the hallways.

With some stroke of luck, they were able to finish the last generator but it was at the cost of David. Trickster laughed as he tossed David on the hook, making David let out a scream. David tried to get off the hook but he fell back on it. He winced looking at the ground. The world was collapsing, Dwight or Yun-Jin opened the gate. David knew he was mostly going to be left behind, it would be extremely risky for the other two to get him, they were both one hook away from death.

Though David thought he was as good as dead, that wasn’t going to be the case. Yun-Jin finished healing Dwight but she started walking towards the exit.

“Wait! Where are you going, I thought we were going to save David!” Dwight yelled.

“I changed my mind, it’s not worth it. One of us will just die for him.” Yun-Jin said. “Just let him die, it’s not like he’ll be dead forever.”

Dwight looks back at the hook David was on and then the exit.

“I’m not leaving without trying.”

Yun-Jin rolled her eyes and turned to leave.

“Whatever, don't complain to me when you get back to the campfire after dying.” She said, before running out.

Dwight ran back towards the large police station. He looked around hearing his heart race. He jumped in a locker as Trickster came past him. He didn’t seem to know Dwight was in there. Once his heart stopped racing, he left the locker and ran towards David. David was now struggling against the Entity, he had looked over to see Dwight surprised.

“You came for me?”

Dwight quickly pulled David off the hook, causing David to groan and hold his chest.

“Of course, I don’t leave my team behind, come on, let’s go before he comes back here,” Dwight whispered, grabbing David’s hand and leading him to exit.

David’s heart was racing but wasn’t because a killer was close. David looked at Dwight’s hand as they hurried to the exit, he hadn’t had someone hold his hand in a long time and it felt… nice. David was knocked out of his thoughts when a blade went past the two of them.

“Shit, we need to run faster! Go in front of me!” Dwight yelled, moving David so he was in front of him and Dwight could take any hit.

The two of them were just able to make it to the exit, Dwight groaning in pain as they passed through the barrier that Trickster couldn’t get past.

“Shit… that was close.” Dwight groaned, slowing down and leaning on a tree.

David slowed down too, trying to catch his breath. He looked at Dwight, who was breathing just as much as him and looking at the ground.

“Thank you… you didn’t have to risk your life for me…” David murmured.

“Don’t say that, we’re a team. I was never going to just leave you behind. We’re in this hell together and we should look out for each other.” Dwight stated, pushing himself off the tree and towards David. “Here, let me heal you and then you can heal me.”

David felt his face warm up, he felt butterflies in his stomach at Dwight’s words. David hadn’t been the best teammate since he got here, sure he would try his best to protect them as much as he could but he was still very reclusive outside of trials. The only person he was really close to was Jake, though that was because they shared a tent at the campfire. David tries to push the warm feeling away, moving his body to make it easier for Dwight to heal him. Dwight began to wrap the bandage from his med kit around David’s chest.

“His hands are soft…” David thought, shaking his head to get rid of his thought quickly.

Once Dwight wrapped the bandage around him one last time, the Entity’s magic healed David and he was no longer in pain.

“Thanks, mate, hand it over and I’ll get you patched up,” David said.

Dwight nodded, handing over the bandages and the med kit. David began by pulling out the blades that were stuck on Dwight’s back, he groaned when each one was taken out. David then began to wrap the bandage. David looked at Dwight’s face, his eyes were closed and he was still groaning a bit from the pain, it made David blush.

“I never realized how… cute Dwight was.” David thought but soon panicked at the thought. “Stop it! You should be thinking this way! You don’t need these feelings! You’ll just get hurt again!”

David finished wrapping Dwight up and the smaller man was no longer making sounds of pain.

“Thank you.” Dwight smiled, fixing his glasses and looking in the distance. “We should get to the campfire, the others are probably worried that we’re not back yet.”

“Yeah…” David simply said.

The two walked closer to the campfire, where most of the rest of the survivors were. David could tell some people were missing, they were most likely in a trial. The few survivors that were there were either sitting at the campfire telling stories, taking this time to get well-needed rest, or talking to their newest survivors in this realm with them. David shouldn’t be surprised by the people who show up in this living nightmare anymore but Nicholas Cage was one of the last people he thought he’d see here. Despite Nick still not understanding the world they were in, he was willing to look out for everyone, it made David rethink his view of celebrities, they weren’t all selfish as he thought.

“You guys are okay!” Claudette smiled, running to hug Dwight and David. “We were starting to get worried that it was taking so long for you guys to come back!”

“We’re okay, it was a bit close but I got David off hook and we just made it out alive,” Dwight reassured the botanist. Dwight had looked at Yun-Jin. “It would have been easier if someone stayed to help.”

Yum-Jin stood up, crossing her arms.

“You made it out, I don’t know why you’re still complaining,” Yun-Jin growled.

“That’s not the point! We’re all stuck here together, we should be working together as a team, not selfishly saving ourselves when others need our help!” Dwight yelled.

David was honestly surprised, he had never seen Dwight get so upset enough to yell.

“Just because you were picked to be our leader doesn’t mean I have to listen to you, I’m not here to make friends, I'm just here to survive until I find a way out of this hellhole!”

David rolled his eyes, it wasn’t surprising that Yun-Jin was like this. From the little advantages that the entity gave them, all of her advantages were selfish. Dwight looked like he was ready to start screaming at Yun-Jin but Kate stepped in between them.

“Stop! This is what the entity wants! You’re just giving them more emotion to feed off of, Dwight she’s not worth getting upset about.” Kate told Dwight. “Just let it go. David and you are both safe, that’s all that matters right now.”

“She’s right, you saved me, that's all that matters. Don’t let Yun-Jin's selfishness get to you.” David said, whispering that last part.

“You’re right… I’m sorry…” Dwight said softly. “I’m going to try and get some rest before I’m dragged into another trial. I’m just glad I got you out of there alive, David.”

Dwight had touched David’s shoulder for a moment before letting go and walking towards his tent. David blushed at the touch but quickly tried to hide it, walking to his tent as well. It was probably a good idea for him to get some rest too, he needed all the energy he could get for his next trial. David lay down on the ground, touching his shoulder.

“Stop… you promised yourself you would never have feelings like this again…”

“You alright there?”

David jumped at Jake’s voice, he turned his body to look at the other male.

“I’m fine, why wouldn’t I be?” David said.

“You seem flustered back there, around Dwight I mean,” Jake stated.

“It’s nothing, I'm just shaken up by the trial.” David lied.

David could tell Jake wasn’t buying it, the man was surprisingly good at reading him.

“You know you can talk to me, right?”

“I said I’m fine! Can you please drop it!” David raised his voice a bit.

Jake had put his hands up.

“Okay, okay. I’m sorry, I just wanted to check on my friend.” Jake said. “I’m here if you change your mind.”

David turned without another word, closing his eyes to try and fall asleep and stop his thoughts about Dwight.

~

As time went by and the more David spent time in trials with Dwight, the stronger his feelings were for the other man. He couldn’t ignore them anymore either and he was putting up a real fight trying to. He couldn’t help it, it was the little things that made him feel so warm inside. The little accidental touches when they fixed a generator together, the smile Dwight has on his face when they successfully escape, the little glances at each other at the campfire, and the many protection hits Dwight has been taking lately for David.

David wasn’t sure why Dwight was taking all these risks to protect him, he wasn’t sure if he was just trying to be a good leader… or maybe he was feeling the same thing David was. The idea made David want to tell Dwight how he felt about him, but the fear of being rejected if he was wrong made him keep his mouth shut. His past experience with love was still affecting him, he still hated thinking about the confession that he made before he was taken by the entity.

David had decided that the only way he could try to get rid of these feelings was to stay away from Dwight. Anytime they were in a trial or at the campfire, he would keep his distance. It wasn’t working but he still did it. It wasn’t long before others started to notice something was happening.

“So are you going to tell me why you’re ignoring Dwight?” Jake had asked him one day while they were sitting in their tent.

“I’m not-“

“You are, don’t try to bullshit me, David,” Jake said. “Everyone can see it, something is clearly going on. Can’t you just tell me, maybe I can help you fix this?”

“Jake, I really don’t want to talk about it.”

“David! Please, just tell me what’s wrong, you're my friend and I hate seeing you look miserable all the time!” Jake stated.

“Fine! I like Dwight and it scares me!” David said, covering his face. “Are you happy now?”

Jake paused for a moment, processing what he just heard.

“What is so scary about being in love?” Jake asked.

David looked up at Jake.

“Because I don’t want to be rejected again, I’ve messed up relationships before. I really like Dwight and I don’t want to make things worse if he doesn’t feel the same way.” David explained.

“That’s not going to happen, you should just tell him. He really likes you too.”

David laughed a bit at that sentence.

“Yeah right, you don’t know that.”

“I do, I see the way he looks at you at the campfire and during trials,” Jake said. “You just need to talk to him and you’ll see I’m right.”

David was going to say something but he noticed the fog surrounding him.

“It’s time to go to a trial.” David simply said getting up.

“Just think about what I said, please,” Jake said, looking up at David.

“Fine…” David murmured before the fog covered him and he disappeared to a trial.

~

This trial was a tricky one. He knew he was going up against Ghostface. He and Meg just finished the second generator when he realized he was being watched. He quickly ran away from Meg, moving as fast as he could up the stairs of the abandoned ski resort. He turned the corner to see a locker and opened it. He was surprised when he saw Dwight inside.

“Shit, s-sorry I’ll find another locker,” David said.

Dwight and David’s hearts raced.

“You don’t have time, just get in here,” Dwight whispered, pulling David in by his shirt.

He quietly shut the locker doors. The two were squashed in the small locker, their chests pressed against each other. David knew he was blushing but ignored it as he looked through the little slits of the locker door. He held his breath as he watched Ghostface’s black cloak run past the locker. Their hearts slowed down and they soon heard Meg scream, he must have found her.

“Come on, we have to save Meg.” David went to open the door but Dwight stopped him.

“Leon will help her. Can we just talk for a second?” Dwight said, looking back at David. “Did I do something to upset you?”

“What? No.” David said.

“Then why have you been ignoring me?” Dwight asked. “Look I really like you and if I did something to upset you I would like to know what I did so I can make up for it or something.”

Dwight froze when he realized what he said, he looked at David scared thinking he made things worse. David looked at him shocked.

“You… like me?” David blushed.

“Y-yes… and not like a friend.” Dwight shuttered. “I have liked you in a romantic way for a while now, I just didn’t know how to tell you. You probably think I’m weird now… I’m sorry I shouldn’t have said anything.”

Dwight went to leave but David was the one grabbing Dwight’s hand this time. They looked at each other briefly before David leaned down and kissed Dwight. Dwight was surprised but slowly closed his eyes, kissing back and wrapping his arms around David’s waist. They kissed for a while before they pulled away. David touched Dwight’s cheek and smiled.

“I’ve liked you for a while too…” David whispered. “I was just so scared to tell you. Before I came here, I confessed my feelings to someone… but they still got on that plane for New York… and then the Entity took me. I just didn’t want to get heartbroken again…”

Dwight gave David a quick kiss.

“I’m sorry that happened to you. I- wait, what’s that sound?” Dwight paused and David paused to listen too. “It sounds like-“

“Crows!” David panicked. “Shit! We’ve been staying still for too long! Ghostface definitely knows where we are!”

“Don’t worry, maybe he’s not going to come here right away we could-“ Dwight paused when their hearts started to race. “Shit, he’s coming!”

“Don’t panic, I have an idea,” David said. “When he gets in front of the locker, I’ll slam the doors in his face and stun him. Then we can run.”

“That’s a good idea.” Dwight smiled. “We can continue this conversation when we make it out of here alive.”

David nodded, watching the door. When he saw the Ghostface’s mask, he slammed the doors open and Ghostface grunted from the stun. David grabbed Dwight’s hand and they ran. Ghostface had run after them but Leon came to the rescue with a flashbang, blinding Ghostface and giving them all the chance to scatter.

They were lucky enough to complete the rest of the generators and all 4 of them made it out alive. While Leon and Meg made their way to the campfire quickly, David and Dwight took their time walking back.

“So does this mean we’re dating now?” Dwight asked.

David smiled, kissing Dwight.

“Yeah, I’d love to be your boyfriend,” David said, holding Dwight’s hand.

Dwight smiled, squeezing David’s hand for a moment before letting go. They walked back to the campfire, and though they didn’t tell anyone the reason they made up, the others were happy they were talking again. They weren’t ready to tell people about their relationship, it was better for them to develop their relationship before telling people about it.

For the first time in forever, David felt happy. Maybe being taken to this hell wasn’t bad after all.
