Work Text:

“Don’t lean up against the Cauldron of the Cosmos!” Stephen growled as he walked into the foyer of the Sanctum only to find Tony Stark putting his full weight leaning on the relic.

“Relax Doc, I’m not going to break your witchy props.” Tony replied with a groan.

After the ‘Superhero Civil War’ as the media was calling it, Tony went on a bit of a recruiting mission to find as many people as he could find to have a backup team ready in case of emergency. It was quite the surprise to find his one time fling and incredibly science and logic based Stephen Strange was using magic now. Of course Tony immediately tracked him down to the New York Sanctum and Stephen could barely get rid of him now along with the engineer’s intern, Peter Parker. Thankfully Stark was alone today as Stephen was already having a bad day and the sheer energy that Parker let off would have given him a migraine.

Of course, this was when Tony shifted his weight and lost his balance as the Cauldron of the Cosmos began to move.

“Shit!” The billionaire exclaimed only to find himself dunked halfway into the Cauldron and Stephen immediately jumped into action.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck-“ Stephen chanted as he yanked Tony out of the relic and pulled the Cauldron back up fully into the platform. Tony appeared to be conscious but his normally styled hair was completely askew and his eyes were not their normal chocolatey hue. Instead they were glowing a bright and glassy gold as the man stared off into nothing. Great.

“Tony- Tony I need you to respond to my voice. Are you okay?” Stephen asked as he reached for his friend’s wrist and checked for a pulse. Thankfully it was there but abnormally high, unsurprising considering the circumstances, however Tony seemed unresponsive. “WONG! HELP!” He called out and the Cloak flew off his shoulders to go track down the other sorcerer.

Stephen gently grabbed Tony, held his weight and guided him to lay on the ground. A moment later, Wong came running with the Cloak following right behind him.

“What happened?”

“Stark lost his balance and got dipped into the Cauldron. He’s been unresponsive but he’s not showing any other signs of distress.” Stephen explained and Wong kneeled next to him and performed a diagnostic spell on the man. Stephen watched as Wong paled in shock.

“It seems the Cauldron’s abilities have transferred themselves into Stark. He seems to have as much magical energy as a sorcerer, if not more. He’s likely viewing the cosmos right now.”

“So we need to guide him back then.” Stephen mused and Wong gave him a look.

“He’s not going to be happy when you have to break the news he has to go into training at Kamar-Taj.”

“Well that’s what he gets for always leaning on the Cauldron.” Stephen huffed and Wong rolled his eyes. Stephen decided to push the argument for later. “Tony, you have to listen to me. You have to pull yourself back to Earth. Your body is still here in the Sanctum with me. You have to come back.”

It took a few minutes of repeating this, but finally Tony seemed to become more aware and the glow began to fade from his eyes.

“Tony?” Stephen asked cautiously and the man blinked slowly before turning to look at him.

“What the fuck happened? I feel like I went on an acid trip from hell.” He groaned and Stephen frowned, finally able to feel his displeasure now that the worry was gone.

“I told you not to lean on the Cauldron.” He responded, deadpan. Tony just rolled his now (apparently) golden eyes. “Congratulations; you’re a wizard, Tony.”

“I’m a what-“

“You’ve been waiting to say that, haven’t you?” Wong asked as Tony seemed to freeze in shock. Stephen merely smirked.

This was about to get interesting.
