Work Text:
"Dammit!" The wishmaster, the all powerful universe altering god was now trapped in a little cube. Scarab picked up the box containing Prismo and juggled it from one hand to the other, "You're gonna be in so much trouble when I catch your little toys. I wonder what the boss is gonna do, perhaps, zap you out of existence? Make you a mortal?" Prismo cringed at that thought, sure he'd get bored of his job here and there but, the reason he existed was to be the wishmaster. If he wasn't a wishmaster then what would he be? "Aw, man, c'mon! That's not cool. I mean, I wouldn't get you to understand. If you were all alone in this box, you'd do it too!" Scarab threw the cube on the TV wall, making Prismo yelp, though, the cube was still intact. "Jerk! You're acting like I killed a god or something! What's the point anyways? Fionna and Cake aren't troubling anyone, I'm the only one you want to get punished!" Scarab rolled his eyes under the mask.
"You don't deserve this job, Prismo. In fact, I think you're the worst possible man to be doing this."
Prismo mumbled something along the lines of "You'd be worse..." which was not ignored by Scarab. He stabbed the cube using his cane, it did nothing but, Prismo grunted anyways. "Man! Stop!" Scarab growled, "I hate you, Prismo." Prismo could feel the walls on the cube closing in, but they weren't. His breathing became scuffed, it looked like he was just inhaling and not exhaling.
He wanted to say something smart to annoy Scarab, or break the cube and escape to strangle him. Instead he just said, "I know you don't hate me." Scarab picked up the cube, gripping it so tight that it could break any second. "I-if you did, You'd turn me into one of those eggs you have. Neutralize me on the spot. B-but you didn't!" Scarab stared at the cube for a second, contemplating if he wanted to throw it again. But he didn't. He knew all his hatred for Prismo wasn't a thing until he became The Wishmaster, until that night thousands of years ago where Prismo became what he was today. He hated Prismo for taking his dream, his goal. He hated how he didn't get a chance to show everyone that he can be something more.
He didn't hate Prismo.
"You are in that cube because you're gonna help me locate where those three scums are." Prismo scoffed. "Without the remote, the TV's useless." Scarab threw the cube on the hot tub, Prismo didn't know if he did this so that his rambles would be muffled or if he just didn't wanna see him. Prismo watched as Scarab worked the TV, making a hole on the wall to change the channel by hand. At one point Scarab was going through the 'flashbacks' setting on the TV, it flashed past events that even Prismo didn't wanna see. Like the time where Prismo was still dating Scarab. If looking as an outsider it always seemed they had great chemistry.
Scarab would be the first one to confess to Prismo, with the intention of breaking his heart. It was the least he could do as revenge for Prismo taking his dream job. But instead, Scarab found himself liking Prismo's company. It was either that or it was because he was such a damn good actor that he even convinced himself that he was in love with Prismo. He was genuinely liking Prismo until Prismo dumped him. Prismo told him that "It just wouldn't work out." and that "You're too involved in your job, why not chill out for a bit?" It was true. Scarab was only committed to the two of them for the first 5 weeks, after that, he'd ignore Prismo almost everytime. Prismo couldn't leave The Time Room so he'd rely on Scarab to come to him. But because Scarab was a workaholic, that'll almost never happen.
Even though Scarab knew he was the primary reason that they broke up, Prismo insisted that it was his fault too. That Scarab was the right person, but it was just the wrong time. Scarab got out of that relationship both bitter and angry at Prismo.
Prismo's jaw clenched watching Scarab switch flashback from the other, he tried to look away but found himself intently watching the TV. Scarab scoffed, "Once I find them, you're gonna get it Prismo." Prismo made a sound of disappointment. "Scrabby, you're gonna regret this. You want to be the wishmaster, right? You wouldn't want to once you find out how alone you'll feel. For glob's sake, the only reason others will talk to you is because they want you to do something for them and not because they want to be with you. Maybe you'll like that Scarab, but I don't! I hate being the only one in this damn room!"
"I hate feeling alone, Scarab."
Scarab went to the hot tub and picked up the cube, Prismo braced himself for impact, he thought Scarab was gonna throw him again. Or maybe worse, egg him. But he didn't. Instead Scarab jumped to the time room's entrance. He sat at the ledge with the cube on his hand. He wasn't looking at Prismo instead, at the floating rocks outside. Prismo could see him tense up, then relax. His grip on the cube also loosened, which calmed Prismo.
Prismo smiled to himself, hoping that Scarab wouldn't see him doing such a ridiculous act after what Scarab put him through. After all the let downs, the blaming, the hurting. He hoped that Scarab, his ex, the guy that saw him as a rival, would still have that spark in his chest when he saw him. That he would still maybe sometimes dwell on the past just like how Prismo does. He wanted so bad to change the past and not break things off. Even if he was hurting so bad in their relationship, it didn't hurt as much when Scarab left him. Literally in this case since he's the only one who can leave the time room.
He hated how much he still loved him. He hated how he would never blame Scarab for what happened between the both of them.
