Work Text:

“Guess what I found?”

Kokichi’s cheerful voice echoed off the bunkers wall, and his steps did too. Well, they weren’t really steps - they were skips. But whatever they were, they made Kokichi smile - and therefore they made Rantaro smile as well. It was hard not too, with Kokichi’s infectious moods. The way his entire face would light up, and his eyes would sparkle like polished gemstones - showing such possibility and wonder, you could get lost in them.

At least, Rantaro got lost in them - probably too much then he should. But hey, he loved his boyfriend and the way he made him feel, what was wrong with that? Setting down a map, Rantaro realised he should probably respond and called out, “What did you find?”

“I found this!”

From right behind him, Kokichi darted forward and almost threw himself onto the floor, grinning the entire time. Moving up a bit, he snuggled up and next to Rantaro - immediately leaching off his warmth, like the ice goblin he sometimes was. They didn’t have the energy for heaters all the time, so the few portables ones they had were reserved for certain rooms - and only when people were in them. Because of how often Kokichi moved, he was almost never in a room with heating.

Despite this, he almost never wore warmer clothes. But with a smile, Rantaro noticed his boyfriend was wearing one of his sweaters.

Kokichi must have noticed his gaze, because he frowned, “Our sweaters.”

“I-” Rantaro tried to defend himself before he laughed, “I’m just glad to see you warm.”
“You wanna guess what I found?” Kokichi used his sing-song voice, batting his eyelashes.

“Ok, it’s… a hand warmer?” Rantaro guessed, before immediately regretting it as he saw Kokichi’s face, “Can I have a hint?”

“Can I have a kiss?”

Reaching forward, Rantaro moved forward and pecked his boyfriend on the lips - a familiar happy feeling spreading through him. There was silence for a second, before Rantaro asked again, “May I have my hint?”

“HInt, what hint?”

“C’mon ‘Kichi.”

“Don’t confuse me with your talking of hints!”

“One kiss for a hint?” Rantaro asked.

“Ooookay, fine.” Kokichi drew in this time, kissing Rantaro instead before drawing back, “Kay, it’s in a small container.”

“Food?”

“Ding-ding-ding!” Kokichi grinned, “But what kind?”

“Something sweet.”

“Obviously,” Kokichi seemed to think for a second, before he simply brought it out, “Ta-da, cherry pie filling!”

“People canned that?”

“Yup,” Kokichi brought out the can proudly, along with two forks, “It’s pretty weird, but I guess we should thank them in the end.”
“We’re just… going to eat a can of pie filling?”

“Well, yeah.” Kokichi looked confused as to what the problem was, “D’you not like cherry?”

“No it’s,” Rantaro looked from the pie, to his boyfriend, to the pie, “I’ll give it a try.”

“Great!” Kokichi held out the can, “You can open it!”

“Is that why you came to find me?”

“Yup,” there was some honesty in Kokichi’s statement, but mainly humour, “And I didn’t want to share with Miu, of all people.”

“Was she there with you?”

“I know, I know… my suffering is immeasurable.”

Rantaro finally succeeded in opening the can, holding it out with a smile to Kokichi. “Gentlemen first.”

“You’re probably the gentleman,” Kokichi said casually, “But thanks!”

Smiling, he skewered some of the can’s fillings and pulled it out - taking a few seconds to admire or inspect it, before putting it in his mouth. His eyes lit up again, chewing quickly before holding it out like an excited kid, “Here, you try!”

“Because you hate it… or because it’s good?”

“Rude!” Kokichi’s eyes sparkled in indignation, “Because it’s good.”

With the reassurance, Rantaro ate some as well, smiling as the sweetness exploded in his mouth. “Thank you, ‘Kichi.”
