Work Text:
The dorm is as quiet as it could possibly be in the middle of the night: some slight rustling from somewhere in the kitchen, the soft click-clacks of a keyboard that most likely belongs to Taerae, and the occasional cough from someone buried underneath their blankets.
It’s cozy, comfortable, warm, and everything good and fuzzy Gyuvin has learned to associate with his new family over the past few months. Never mind the actual dropping temperatures as the days of autumn and winter melt together, the heat stemming from his happy little heart is more than enough to keep him satiated.
Like many of the others, he assumes, Gyuvin is curled up in bed with his blankets, body on one side as he scrolls through his phone like a typical teenager. Not much is interesting in the sort-of-silence state of the world, but it keeps him busy. He catches a few tweets from Zeroses that barely lift his lips into a smile, but he isn’t looking for much entertainment, anyway.
Not entirely wrapped up in his own mind yet, the soft knocks at the door don’t surprise him. He makes a noncommittal noise at the back of his throat and barely glances at the new presence in the room. Yujin takes quiet steps toward his bed as Gyuvin wordlessly shifts over in his bed.
“Hi,” the kid mumbles, settling into what Gyuvin knows is his favorite spot in the whole dorm despite how much denial he gets when they talk about it. “Whatcha doin’?”
“Nothing,” Gyuvin half-yawns, smiling to himself as Yujin tries to subtly scoot closer. “You? What does my clingy kid want?”
Yujin chooses not to respond as an act of pretend irritation, which only spurs Gyuvin’s cute aggression even more for whatever reason.
They lie in bed for a bit, eyes lazily consuming whatever TikTok, tweet, or Instagram post magically pops up on Gyuvin’s feed. Maybe one or two comments are tossed into the air every few minutes. This almost bored casualness adds the tiniest bit more fuel to Gyuvin’s already giddy, full heart. He doesn’t think it can handle any more before it explodes, but the new knocks on the door immediately prove him wrong.
How he knows the knocks belong to Ricky is a mystery to even him, but it feels like a tug at his gut. Why wouldn’t he know?
The steps the blond takes into the room are a bit more hesitant than Yujin’s were, but the smile Gyuvin gives the other is more than enough to make the last few strides a march, and then a leap. Gyuvin inhales sharply at the pressure on his torso as Yujin loudly complains. The kid is immediately on the receiving end of scoldings for disrupting the gentle atmosphere of the night, but Gyuvin quickly placates him (or makes it worse, actually) with an annoying kiss on the cheek.
Ricky rolls over the both of them fully until he’s between Gyuvin and the wall, and Gyuvin has to repress the urge to kick his legs in happiness at the warmth emitting from both his sides.
“Relax, puppy,” Ricky says with a tone Gyuvin does not think he is quite deserving of at this moment. He kicks the other in retaliation and is instead elbowed by his own son before Ricky even has a chance to do anything.
“Don’t flirt when I’m here. And replay the video again, please,” Yujin whines, gesturing to the Twitter video that has ended and won’t automatically loop. Gyuvin scolds him again for that one, something about having the decency to never flirt when he’s in front of his own child (he’s lying), but he’s quick to tap his phone screen, anyway.
He watches from the corner of his eye as Yujin forms what is most likely a subconscious pout before he becomes engaged with whatever dog video is playing once again. Then he turns his head to face Ricky who’s already looking at him. What a weirdo.
“Hi, beautiful,” is what comes out of his mouth instead, like an absolute loser.
The scoff and reddening of ears he gets is worth it, though.
“Hi.”
“What, no ‘handsome’ in return? I’m not dashing enough for you?” He leans closer and furrows his eyebrows for maximum angry effect. Ricky only grins at him and pushes at his forehead with one index finger.
“No flirting, the kid made it a rule.”
“At least one person here respects me,” Yujin grumbles from the side.
Ricky seems to make the quick decision that letting Yujin’s ego grow is worse than indulging Gyuvin, because the soft smack of lips on Gyuvin’s forehead is enough to send the kid gagging over the side of the bed. Gyuvin can’t help the giggle that escapes as he moves to lie on top of and suffocate the blond.
“You love me,” Gyuvin sings, drawing out the word with a warmth he didn’t think was entirely possible. Everything is muffled as he pushes his face into Ricky’s neck, wriggling around and unable to contain his joy.
The light weight on his waist is a perfectly fine substitute for any verbal response. He lifts his head for just a moment to see if Yujin has left the room in fake disgust, but the younger has simply grabbed his phone from when he let go to smother Ricky under his weight. He scrolls through Gyuvin’s social media like he owns it, and Gyuvin settles slightly lower to lay his head on Ricky’s chest and watch the kid chuckle at silly posts.
He barely notices when Hanbin takes a step into the room, Hao right behind him and peering over his shoulder. The two exchange a few words in a volume only detectable to them, but Gyuvin briefly catches Hao whispering a few things to Ricky. They leave the room as silently as they came in, faces now adorned with fond smiles.
Gyuvin reckons he falls asleep with the same fond smile on his own face.
