Summary:

Samandriel has always enjoyed starlight

Notes:

I have a deep burning love for Samandriel. He’s one of my favorite characters. But I also love to hurt characters I love so… here you go.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Samandriel loved looking at the stars. He was always sad that he missed the creation of them.

Samandriel listened to his siblings talk about how they worked to create them any chance he got. Before Lucifer left, Samandriel would sit at his feet, holding on to every word about what it felt to create them. How it felt to fill the darkness with light. Michael would tell stories of how beautiful Lucifer looked bathed in starlight. He was The Morningstar after all.

More than anything Samandriel loved to listen to his father speak about the creation of the universe. He loved to listen to his fathers plan even if he didn’t play a part in them. He wasn’t important enough to be a part of his father’s plan but that’s okay. He was just happy to listen to the stories.

After Lucifer fell there wasn’t time for stories. There wasn’t time for Samandriel to watch the stars. He kept busy, running errands for any angel that asked him. He was careful to never ask questions aloud after his run in with Naomi.

When Samandriel was tasked with visiting Earth for the auction of the tablet, he was excited. He’d never been to earth. Never been around humans when they were alive. Of course he wouldn’t have much time to spend with his father’s creations but maybe he would get to at least shake someone’s hand, or ride a bus, maybe feed some ducks in a park.

The auction doesn’t go as planned but at least the demon’s don’t leave with the tablet. Samandriel offers protection to Linda Tran and her son, the prophet Kevin, but can’t say he’s surprised when she turns him down. She’s not wrong, Heaven hasn’t done a good job of keeping Kevin safe at all.

He should have anticipated an attack. He should have been more prepared. He’s on Earth, he’s not protected, he should have been a better soldier. Offering kindness and protection to Linda Tran was a deviation. He shouldn’t have strayed from his orders.

Viggo drilled into his head, ripping a scream from his throat. Samandriel wished he could save his vessel from this. A devout young man who has never even kissed someone.

Samandriel fought as long as he could. He prayed and begged for help only to be caught by Viggo. The pain was unbearable. He felt like he was being ripped apart. He felt pain down to his core. His grace screamed for relief, for peace. Samandriel prayed to a father that wasn’t listening for absolution.

Samandriel could have cried when he saw Castiel. His brother held him close, carrying him to safety, out of the decrepit building and into the starlight. Samandriel tried to warn his brother. He really did. But it wasn’t enough. Samandriel was a failure. Castiel stabbed him, held him as his grace burned out his eyes in the starlight.
