Work Text:

The sound of rain could be heard pitter-pattering all around Momo, but that did not stop him from visiting his dearest, Yuki. Even though he had forgotten his umbrella, and his jacket was barely waterproof, he was determined to still visit Yuki. Nothing could get in his way.

He knocked at Yuki’s door three times before stepping back. He must have been standing outside for five minutes before the door opened before him. There stood Yuki looking like he had just woken up. It was no secret that the rain made Yuki feel ten times more fatigued than he usually would be, just the more reason for Momo to visit during the dull day.

“Ahaha- sorry, did I wake you?” Momo chuckled, trying to take Yuki’s displeased expression off his face. He mumbled what sounded like yes, before staring at Momo blankly.

As usual Momo bowed down to Yuki, “Yuki-san, please reform Re:vale with me until Ban-san comes back!”. Yuki stared at the water dripping off the tips of Momo’s hair down his back, just thinking about how cold the boy probably was made Yuki shiver.

“Momo- you can come inside.. Just this once.” Momo looks up at Yuki, who’s looking at him warmly. He smiles at Yuki before walking inside. Yuki walks straight to the couch where he immediately rests his head on the couch’s backrest. Momo stands in Yuki’s living room awkwardly, the rain in his hair dripping everywhere, unsure whether or not to join him on the couch or sit on the floor.
“Momo, take a seat.” Yuki said.
“Really? Is that okay?!” Momo blurted.
“Of course, you can sit on the couch,”

Momo sat on the couch upright, in contrast to Yuki’s lazy slouch. He sat the furthest away he possibly could to avoid tension. He was trying far too hard to make sure he wouldn't upset Yuki. He looked around Yuki’s living room which was covered in mess, clear Yuki had not put much effort in keeping his space clean, who would in his situation though?

Outside it was raining much harder than it was when Momo was invited inside. The only sound you could hear was the aggressive pit-pats of the rain hitting the window. Usually this would be a relaxing sound for anyone, however the silence was uncomfortable. “Y-Yuki-san, do you want me to do anything for you?” Momo asked, breaking the silence.
“Not particularly… you could dry your hair if you want, there’s a hair dryer in the bathroom.” Yuki murmured half asleep. Momo nodded and walked to Yuki’s bathroom, trying to escape the awkwardness, and wanting to let the clearly tired Yuki go back to sleep in peace.

Momo sat in the bathroom, surrounded by bloody tissues and a mess similar to the living room quietly. He knew Yuki had probably fallen back to sleep judging from how he was before Momo left, and did not want to disturb him any further by turning the hair dryer on. He scrolled through his phone pointlessly until he felt it was appropriate for him to wake Yuki up to ask to leave.

That was, until Momo heard a loud bang. A very familiar bang. It was thunder. Momo felt his body tense, his neck tighten and his stomach drop. Internally it was like he was screaming for help. He was gasping for air, and struggling to breathe. Tears welled in his eyes as he felt himself grow weaker. The world felt so loud for Momo, and he just wanted it all to stop.

In the other room, Yuki woke up from the especially loud thunder. He looked around the living room cluelessly, before remembering that he invited Momo inside. He immediately got up to look for him, faster than ever. Did Momo let himself out? Yuki peeked into the kitchen saying Momo’s name, no response. He walked up the hall and peeked into his bedroom saying Momo’s name, no response again. The thunder rumbles again. The bathroom door is slightly ajar, so Yuki pokes his head through. He is surprised to see Momo with his head buried in his legs.

Yuki opens the door wider and walks in, the closer he gets to Momo the louder he hears Momo’s sniffling and gasping. “Hey… Momo? What’s wrong?” This is the first time Yuki had seen the usually cheerful and bright boy so distraught. Yuki puts his hand on Momo’s shoulder, which seemingly awakens Momo from his thoughts. Momo looks up at Yuki teary eyed and weakly. All he could do was mumble the others' names before sobbing profusely. Yuki was unsure of what to even do, he had never had to handle anyone crying to him before. He looked at the sobbing boy for a few seconds. Suddenly, the fog from his brain vanishes and he can think of what to do.

He wraps his hands on the back of Momo's head, and gently pushes it into his chest. He strokes Momo's hair gently. The only sound that could be heard was Momo's increasingly loud sobs, the pitter-patter of the rain on the bathroom window and the occasional rumble of thunder, however this made Yuki happy. He thought for the first time that perhaps, maybe he should give Momo a chance.

Once Momo's crying had completely stopped, Yuki moved his hand off of Momo's head and onto his shoulders instead. The teary eyed boy looked up at Yuki, trying to muster up something to say, however nothing came out of his mouth. Yuki surprisingly took the initiative and gently suggested to Momo "Let's go somewhere more comfortable." Momo nodded weakly before trying to get off of the toilet lid himself, but his legs are still clearly weak from the ordeal and he stands uneasy. Yuki, noticing Momo's uneasiness, takes his hand to walk him to his bedroom.

Yuki sits down on the bed first, and Momo quickly joins him, sitting right beside him, their thighs basically touching. "Mo-" He is interrupted by the sudden rumble of the thunder. Momo impulsively wraps his hands around Yuki to cuddle him. As soon as the thunder stops, he instantly realises what he had just done. He shuffles away from Yuki quickly. "I'm sorry- I'm so sorry!" Momo apologises continually.
"Momo, are you afraid of the thunder?" Yuki asks, it's a stupid question because it's obvious, even to Yuki who is usually so unthoughtful about those around him. Momo nods, he seemed ashamed to admit. Yuki smiles at Momo, and puts his arms out.
"Momo come here, I don't mind." Yuki says comfortingly.
"Yuki-san… is it really okay?"
"Yes Momo, you've done so much for me. It's only right that I should keep you safe today!" Yuki says. Somehow in this moment he seems very strong, it's almost as if the roles were reversed. It was a side of Yuki that Momo had never seen before. Momo crawled over to Yuki and just let his body give in.

The two must have stayed comfortable in their cuddles for half an hour. During that half hour - they stopped sitting up and lay down. Momo had fallen asleep on Yuki's shoulder while Yuki was stroking his back. Yuki tried his absolute hardest to stay awake, to make sure the thunder did not wake Momo up at all. It wasn't difficult somehow, seeing Momo's asleep face was something Yuki realised he could watch all day. Yuki was thinking about a lot of things while the other was asleep on his shoulder, and he came to an ultimatum, he promised to himself that he would tell Momo as soon as he could.

Only when Yuki was sure the thunder had definitely passed, he gently nudged Momo awake. Momo rubbed his eyes before looking up at Yuki. He blushed realising how close he was to Yuki, he was literally on the others shoulder, before recalling what happened before he went asleep. Once he was awake enough to know what he would want to say he stuttered, "I'm sorry Yuki-san, I'm supposed to be the one taking care of you now during your hard time…" Yuki didn't know how to convey that it was okay, so instead he tightened their cuddle. Momo smiled, it was rare for him to receive so much affection, usually he would be the one giving it out.

"I never would've thought that you'd be afraid of thunderstorms," Yuki said playfully. He didn't mean to say that with any negative intentions, however it immediately brought down Momo's mood. "Do you want to know why..?" Momo asked seriously, he got out of Yuki's grasp and sat up instead. Yuki did also and nodded. "Heh.. where do I start…" Momo chuckled nervously. "Before I used to play soccer… that was until I injured my leg and wasn't allowed to anymore," Yuki nodded, he had already known all this, although Momo might not have realised since he only knew it through the letter. "The day I injured my leg, it was thundering and raining heavily… I slipped in the mud and injured myself" Momo says, his expression saddened. "Everytime it thunders, I remember that day… I remember losing all my hopes, my dreams, I truly didn't think I had a future anymore.." Momo begins to cry which prompts Yuki to start to hug him.
"Momo… I am sure there's plenty of things waiting for you." He pauses for a moment (thinking of what to say next) before continuing. "I-I want to continue spending time with you… let's reform Re:vale, Momo!"

As soon as Yuki says that, it's like the whole world went silent. Even the pit-pats of the rain hitting the window had been silenced. Momo looks at Yuki-san, with a wide variety of emotions, his eyes widened from excitement, it's almost as if he had not been crying just seconds before. "R-really Yuki?" he says, dumbstruck, in complete disbelief, "Are you sure you won't regret this?" Momo says. He was so adamant in requesting it, yet he seems so unsure. "I-I want to be with you more Momo…" Yuki blurts out. Saying something like this is very uncharacteristic of Yuki. It truly seemed like he said the first thing he thought of.
"I had an idea of a song I wanted to sing with you when we were in the bathroom…" he says, unsure if he was even saying the right words. Momo looks up at Yuki before grabbing him to give him a tight hug. "I'm so happy… I can't tell if I'm dreaming!" Yuki chuckled as he returned the hug. Momo was the only person Yuki would want to stay side by side with other than Ban. As they hugged each other, the room was completely tranquil, and all you could hear was the peaceful pit-pats of rain on the window.
