Chapter Text

Under the starlight, in a different galaxy…

Sabine turns her palms back and forth, fists clenched and unclenched. Then she turns her palms back and forth, clenches her fists, and then unclenches them. Then she repeats it again.

It still feels weird now that she had a chance to really feel it after the adrenaline rush. Sabine raises her gaze from looking at her palms and then casts her sight on the stars.

Sabine brushes off Ahsoka’s question by giving her a vague answer. “Shadow in the starlight…” a futile attempt at an answer, as Sabine knows Ahsoka would also sense what she sensed. After all, Ahsoka is more in tune with the Force compared to her, who just stumbled upon the situation and unlocked the floodgates. That shadow in the far distant terrain of Peridea, the shade in the Force, is so strong that Sabine knows it could only be one person she has ever heard of.

Anakin Skywalker.
Ahsoka’s master.
My master’s master. Sabine silently adds to that internal statement herself.
The Chosen One, then a fierce Togruta, then a Mandalorian.

Can she really call herself a Jedi Padawan now? It still feels weird to think of herself as one, Sabine thought. She has no problem with the master/student relationship; it's now the Jedi part that caught her off guard.

Sensing Anakin, she wonders if her family is up there, watching over her. She then continues to pray to the Force that Ezra got back home safely on Thrawn’s cruiser. And maybe also trying to trust that the Force will guide them back to the known galaxies. Their home.

This whole trusting thing is hard, not only for Sabine but also for all Mandalorians. Sabine feels more in control trusting her own beskar armor, her helmet, and her blasters. Rather than feeling adrift in this… as expressive as she seems to be in arts and color, Sabine finds it hard to properly describe this sensation.

“I can sense and pretty much see you brainstorming with thoughts,” Ahsoka's voice reaches Sabine. Her voice draws Sabine's attention back to the present. They are sitting by the bonfire that the Noti have set up, and she sees her hand holding the very weapon that changed her: Ezra’s Lightsaber and the Force.

Well… my lightsaber. Sabine thinks as she clips the weapon back onto her utility belt.

“After all this time, I finally feel it,” Sabine answers.

“I know,” Ahsoka replies with a proud smile on her face as she continues. “I feel it too.”
