(One-shot)
One of your friends will betray you.
That’s what Dumbledore had said.
James leaned against the wall as he watched Sirius & Peter in the bed with Remus who was just waking up after another full moon. He heard Harry fuss about something & Lily’s attempt at soothing him, but Dumbledore’s words kept banging about in his head.
That & the Death Cloak which Dumbledore had asked to borrow.
Both statements had made James uneasy for different reasons.
Surely, not his immediate friends. He watched the three of them in bed as Peter held chocolate out to Remus.
Definitely not Sirius since he wasn’t a friend but actually family: a distant cousin through Black blood. So he certainly didn’t count, right?
It had to be anyone else.
Was Dumbledore a Hallows hunter? James mind wandered on back to that. His father, Charlus, had warned James many years ago about this. Charlus had even hidden the family so well & changed their name from Peverell to Potter before James was even born. But still, some hunters insisted on slipping through all their cloaks to get at the prized Death Cloak.
Dumbledore would be the last person James thought to be a hunter.
Nevertheless, James had some hard choices to make … & he had better be quick about them!
