(One-shot)
“What the hell are we going to do with a sleigh, Sirius?” Charlus asked, looking at his adopted (stolen from the Black family?) son in amusement. “We don’t have a horse to pull it.” He stared at the great black sleigh sitting in the snow in the front yard.
“Don’t worry,” Sirius grinned, pointedly ignoring the death glare from James standing behind his father. Oh he bloody knew what Sirius was planning! “I’ve got it covered. You two just head out to work. I’ll have it all set up by tonight.”
“Ok, fine,” Charlus sighed, giving up. He took Dorea’s hand. “Shall we go?”
As soon as they apparated, Sirius ducked to avoid a large snowball pelted his way. “What? Oh, come on! It’s an awesome id—WHOA! Put those antlers away! We are on the front street.”
James whistled sharply like an Elk before disappearing inside the house. Having just recently gotten his own license, Sirius apparated away to get a few things. He walked into the general store that muggles had set up somewhere in London & bought a hammer, a hatchet, some rope & an apple.
Returning to Potter Manor, he didn’t find James anywhere, but that didn’t bother him. He needed James out of the way. Sirius set to work on the shining black sleigh.
He used the hatchet to cut the rope into various lengths. One piece was used to attach silver bells on either side of the sleigh.
He cut another piece to make a type of lead line & finally he cut one more piece & knotted it into a bridle. Then he went inside.
“I’m NOT doing it!” James snapped as Sirius settled down in the kitchen. “My parents can never find out about Prongs!”
“They won’t,” Sirius said, setting two hot drinks on the table & pushing one over. “Quit worrying! You’ve heard your father say it. He’s been wishing to go out for a while now, just the two of them.”
“Not my problem!” James snapped before sipping the liquid in his mug. It wasn’t as hot as he thought so he ended up downing it all. It felt good on this cold day. “Um. Wait. What the—?”
There was a soft pop & Prongs appeared. Sirius stood up & patted the stag’s nose. “You won’t be able to shift back for twelve hours. I spiked your drink.” He stepped back, avoiding thrashing horns. “Easy. You’re fine!”
He picked up the apple & held it out. The natural instinct of the stag slowly took over & Sirius walked backwards & outside, leading Prongs to the harness. He set the stag up & finally allowed him to eat the apple.
Charlus & Dorea had quite an evening sliding around Godric’s Hollow on Christmas Eve, not knowing they were driving their own son around. Sirius had told them that he had rented the stag from a farm.
The next day however, Sirius woke up to find that all his Christmas presents had been burned, leaving Charlus & Dorea confused while James grinned like an idiot.
Fists by his side, Sirius snarled, “Do whatever you like, Jim. It was worth it!”
James watched his parents together on the balcony. “Yeah, I guess it was.”
