“I don’t know why I’m telling you this,” Pearl notes, while they’re still off topic, “somehow even Joel knew about my relationship troubles, and Joel’s never in on anything.”
“What, I’m supposed to not tell the Sheriff what the local criminal’s been doing? What kind of Deputy would I be?”
“The kind who knew how to mind his business,” she rolls her eyes, affectionate.
“Anyway, go on! I’m listening!”
So she does, part of her glad for the attention.
