Work Text:
Too often whilst in the Human Realm, Amity doesn’t look where she is going, whether because she has her face buried in one of the Azura books that didn’t exist in the Boiling Isles, or because she’s just distracted by how strange and unfamiliar everything looks compared to back home. So, it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise when she becomes too distracted by a butterfly that flutters past her head to notice where she places her feet.
And that is how Amity walks too close to the edge of the sidewalk and her foot slips off the curb. She shrieks, the world lurching as she loses her balance, toppling to the side…
But before she can stagger into the road and potentially get hurt, a hand grasps her wrist and pulls. “It’s okay!” says her saviour. Of course, it’s Luz who helped her. “I’ve got you, hermosa.”
Luz tugs her arm, bringing Amity stumbling toward her. The momentum combines with Amity’s shakiness from the adrenaline rush, and she loses her balance, crashing straight into her girlfriend and sending them both tumbling to the ground. They land in a tangled heap on the grassy verge next to the sidewalk, both girls bursting into laughter from both shock and relief.
“Thank you, Luz,” Amity says, shifting off her girlfriend when it occurs to her that she’s pinning Luz to the ground. Sitting beside Luz, she takes her hand in her own and squeezes, her cheeks flushing.
“No problem,” Luz says, beaming at her. “Always happy to help my sweet potato.”
Amity’s face goes even redder, and she presses a quick kiss to Luz’s cheek. “Sorry about that. I wasn’t paying attention.”
“Don’t worry about it. I get distracted easily too. I’m just glad you’re safe.”
Amity smiles. “Me too.”
