Work Text:
Niko loved having his soulmates around, really he did. He saw them at school, he saw them at band practice, he saw them… well, everywhere.
Ok maybe it was a little annoying, having four of his five soulmates around all the time. He really liked all of them but it felt like he never saw any of his other friends anymore and one had even told him it was like he had his own entourage now wherever he went.
But would was he going to do, tell them he didn't want to hang out with them? They had a band, he would sometimes try to help Olli with schoolwork, although Tommi could help him much better, and Joel always wanted to talk song ideas and Joonas was always inviting them over to watch movies or play games at his parents place... There was just always something to bring them together day after day.
He didn't know who to talk to about it, while his parents had always been accepting of the fact that he had so many soulmates, it wasn't like they could understand fully themselves, they only had each other, and his siblings had only had the standard two marks as well.
He just knew it was driving him slightly nuts, but at the same time the idea of not being around them drove him nuts too.
He had no clue how to handle it.
"What's going on with you?" His mother asked as he got home from school and sighed heavily as he flopped onto the couch.
"Nothing," he said.
She hummed a little bit, "are you going over to see the boys today? Band practice? Maybe new songs to practice ?"
"We don't have band practice today," Niko glared up at the ceiling, even his mother expected him to be with them all the time!
"Well you boys can still do other things even if you're not practicing," she said as she sat by the top of his head. "You can just hang out and watch movies or-"
"I don't need to be with them all the time!" Niko snapped, muttering a quick sorry for the tone.
"Is that why you're grumpy?" She asked, "you feel like you're spending too much time with your soulmates?"
"I see them all the time," Nico grumbled, "I see them at school, band practice, pretty much all the free time I have… they're pretty much the only people I hang out with now. I hate it!"
"No you don't," his mother chided gently, "I met your father when we were still in school as well and it was the same thing; of course we still saw friends but we spent far more time with each other than we did anybody else. It's hard not to when you find the person or people that complete you. And be honest with yourself, do you miss the others you used to hang out with? Or was it just a big change rather suddenly and it's making you question things? Finding a soulmate is a wonderful thing, but it's scary too, life changing, and I can only imagine it's even more so for you having several."
"I guess," Niko hesitated. "I guess it was just a really big change, but I can't say there's anyone else I would rather hang out with than them, it just kind of feels right I guess."
She smiled down at him and patted his head, "that's exactly how it should feel. Not to say you have to see them every single day, and you should still try to see your other friends. If you want to see anyone tonight I see no problem with it. Give them a call if you want."
Niko nodded and pulled out his phone, already knowing who he was going to see. "Thanks mom."
She nodded and got up, walking to the kitchen while he pulled up his group chat with the others and sent a quick message to see who would want to go see a movie that night.
He quickly got four yeses.
