Work Text:
Holy Moses. Evan Goldman somehow pulled it off. Asked the popular kids to join his "party" and they were coming!
One issue, the first person he ever met in this town was not that popular. If he had any morals in fact, he wouldn't have ripped it in front of the whole school, much to their astonishment. But that's not how it works. So Evan was stuck with a very, very hard choice. Would he risk it all just for some attention? Or would he rather be a decent person and invite Patrice, no matter how much his popularity suffers? (Hey, he'll even invite that Archie kid he heard about from her.)
But it really had to be the perfect party. With the best DJ, the best music, the best.. everything! So why would he throw it all away just for two weirdos? (no offense.) It was risky, plus that wasn't the goal.
He really should have known. He should have known that Patrice was unpopular; he shouldn't have known that this was what you had to do in order to get in with the cool crowd. And you're not meant to fight back, no matter how much your morals get in the way.
His mom should have never moved to God knows where in Indiana. His dad shouldn't have dropped them for a stewardess. All of this wasn't supposed to happen.
But it sadly did.
And yes, he did feel sick inside while she looked at him with such an unreadable expression (maybe a mix between angry and hurt.) But he was desperate. And hey, for what it's worth, he did himself a favor.
"I can't wait to come to your party!"
And they really couldn't wait to come to his bar mitzvah? party.
