You say I don’t understand and I say I know you don’t
She should have expected this. They barely had a proper conversation for the past week. Sure they lived in the same house but so what.
“What do you mean you want to break up with me? Did I do something wrong?” Of course he was confused. He didn’t even bother to look her in the eyes that night. Eyes drawn to his best friend as if he was in love with her, Elizabeth knew that meant something. A few months ago, they went out to a party with some of their former classmates from middle school. Some of them being Sasha, Charlotte, Lucas, Kinsey and Kiara. Kinsey, Alex’s childhood best friend, couldn’t keep her fucking eyes away from Betty’s boyfriend.
She knew Kinsey liked him, but they were friends. Friends wouldn’t try to hit on their friend’s boyfriend, right? That’s what Elizabeth thought. Alex spend more time with Kinsey more than he ever did with Elizabeth. Betty knew Alex was closer to Kinsey, she knew they were friends since elementary school. She just couldn’t help but feel jealous.
”Ugh, this is so stupid! I-I thought that this shit would be cured but… you won’t even talk to me about it!’’ Betty cried.
Alex grabbed both of her hands, he tried to look at her. Betty turned away, looking at the area she was in with him.
Remember looking at this room, we loved it ‘cause of the light
“If this is about Kinsey then I promise you that she is nothing more than my best friend,’’ Alex reassured her. Betty wanted to believe that, but it felt wrong.
”Just leave, Alex. It’s getting late,’’
Alex left her apartment. Betty sat on her bed, in the dark alone. Memories flowed through her brain, they were nothing but depressing. Memories when she felt like a phoenix, times when she got tired of pretending to be okay for Alex. She always supported him, but Alex never supported her. She mended all of the gashes in their relationship, Alex never reciprocated.
‘He deserved it Betty… he dealt the final blow it’s fucking fine’ she told herself. Flashbacks starts to play in her head like a movie.
Times when Alex chooses to help someone else and not Betty.
Stop
Times when Betty woke up in the middle of the night just to reassure Alex that he’ll be alright.
You’re losing me
Times when she felt uncomfortable in a crowded space but Alex never looked at her or even ask her if she was okay.
Stop. You’re losing me
Times when Alex hugged Kinsey when she cried, but Alex never even tried to talk to Betty when she cried.
Stop. You’re losing me
Elizabeth lied on her bed and cried herself to sleep that night.
I can’t find a pulse, my heart won’t start anymore.
