Work Text:

It was just his luck. Of course it was.

Bennett couldn’t seem to go a month without a severe injury, and this month was no exception. He’d been out on a short adventure, just to visit the places he hadn’t been to in a while, when he’d slipped off a small cliff and broke his arm. Trivial, really, Bennett had broken his arm more times than he’d like to admit. Actually, the last time he’d broken it, Sister Barbara said that if he broke his arm any more times, she wouldn’t be able to heal it without elemental assistance.

So. That was fun.

Bennett thought about the lecture he was in for when he returned to Mondstadt. His dads would berate him for going out alone, Sister Barbara would sternly remind him to excersize caution when in the wild, Fischl would send his brain into confused loops as she fussed over his wound with her…strange vocabulary. Not that Bennett would mind, of course, he just didn’t see the point in worrying over a wound that would heal.

But he did end up taking their unspoken advice. Instead of hurrying back to the city as fast as he could, Bennett slowly retraced his path. Sister Barbara would be proud. He stepped around possible sinkholes, kept his gait light and ready to move quickly at a moment’s notice. When he finally breached the towering gates of Mondstadt city, he was greeted by a huddle of his favorite people.

“Bennett! Thank the Archons, there you are!” Sister Barbara exclaimed as she and two others ran over to him. The air crackled with the intensity of Electro as the two other Allogenes’ Visions resonated with each other.

“Bennett is hurt again…” Razor murmured, leaning over to get a closer look at Bennett’s mangled arm. Fischl hung towards the back of the group and didn’t say a word, which was very unlike her.

“Hey guys!” Bennett smiled, “What’s with the welcoming party?”

“Does not even my most faithful retainer realize his own idiocy?” Fischl finally sighed.

“What mein Fräulein means to say is—“

“No need for translation Oz, I understood that one loud and clear…” he giggled uneasily.

Sister Barbara exhaled exasperatedly. “You broke it again? Didn’t I tell you that this bone couldn’t take any more damage?”

“Uhh, yeah, you did.”

“And yet, you still managed to break it.”

Bennett laughed, but it was more out of embarrassment than anything else. Sister Barbara sighed again and began to heal his arm with her Vision. He wasn’t overly fond of the way his bone fused back together, but he’d been through it so many times that it barely bothered him anymore.

“There, that’s good enough for now. Let’s go back to the Cathedral and finish up, okay?”

“Sure! Are you guys coming too?” Bennett looked to his friends.

“A question most nonsensical.”

“Razor will go too,” he said, glancing confusedly at Fischl after she spoke.

“Please, do tell, why must you insist upon adventuring into the wilds all by your lonesome? Is mine companionship not desirable?” Fischl asked as they walked, Barbara in the lead and Razor bringing up the rear.

“What? No, that’s not it at all!” Bennett protested, “I just figured you would be busy, and I didn’t want to trouble you…”

“Did Bennett forget?” Razor piped up from behind the pair, “Lupical travels in a pack. The pack keeps everyone safe.”

“The boy of wolves is most correct. Should you ever need my assistance, all you need do is ask.”

Barbara giggled up front. “See, Bennett? There’s no need to go it alone. We all worry for you, so just make sure you take a buddy next time, alright?”

The Pyro Allogene’s face flushed, and he stared at the bricks in embarrassment. “Seriously, you guys…”

Sorry for the length on this one, I was really stumped on what to do…
