"You told your parents?" Joel started at Joonas in shock.
Were they already at that point? Had they been dating long enough to tell their families?
It was bad enough his own parents were trying to push him to go to university and to leave his dream of being in a band behind, but if they knew he was dating Joonas on top of that, he wasn't sure how they would react… he could imagine it wouldn't be pleasant, considering they keep trying to wet him up with a friend's daughter.
"I did," Joonas nodded, leaning back on the park bench as they had settled down after their walk, "they took it really well! My mom said she suspected it actually, none of them were really surprised."
Joel nodded a little, "that's good… oh god is it going to be weird when I go over to their place now?"
Joonas shrugged, "no weirder than when my sister brings her boyfriend home."
"Ok," Joel nodded a little, "I guess I just didn't know it was time to tell them."
"Did you want to keep it a secret forever?" Joonas' expression dropped, "you're not ashamed or embarrassed to date me… are you?"
Joel felt his worry about his own parents fly away, "never!" Joel told him, taking his hands, "I love you so much, I could never be embarrassed of you, you're bright and gorgeous and hilarious and so fucking far out of my league it's not even funny."
Joonas smiled and squeezed his hands, "you are not out of my league, we're perfect for each other." He told him, "and just because I told mine doesn't mean you have to tell yours ok? I know that's… a different situation than mine; with us and with the band, it'll come out when it's supposed to."
Joel thanked whatever force out there that brought Joonas into his life, "I love you Joonas."
Joonas leaned in and kissed him gently, "I love you too, Joel."
