Chapter 1: First Meeting

Chapter Text

Everything inside the Ethereal Colossal's head was still. Not even the Meebs made a single squeak. Something was coming, the blob critters could tell. The feeling grew more intense as time went on.

They waited.

And waited.

And waite-

*ZHUMMM*

The sudden artificial humming noise startled the now spread-out and hiding Meebs. The once-sleeping synthesizer now had a blocky, glowing portal right on the egg bed. Meebs watched on as an orange-ish flower-like head popped out of the portal, looking around with its single large eye before fully emerging from the portal.

The creature closed the portal with one swift swipe of its almost robotic looking claws, releasing a sigh of relief after it closed the opening. The Meebs were confused yet curious. They've never seen a monster like that since the others disappeared.

On closer inspection of a bold little Meeb, the monster was rather tall, covered in a plethora of elegant purple feathers. On their back sat two beautiful pink wings. As said before, they had an orange flower-like head, of course noticing the large, tired-looking eye right in the middle.

What really caught the Meebs attention was the three robotic floating claws that closed the portal.

The Meebs seemed to get closer to the new monster, seeing as the bored look of the eye lit up a touch as it saw the little critters.

"Why, hello there little ones." The Meebs cooed at the monster's angelically smooth voice. They perched themselves all over the monster. Claws, wings and all.

"Comfortable already?" The monster chuckled.

"Well, you will need to get even more used to me. I hope you do not mind, but I am a traveler of nostalgic dreams. It has been so long, and it is time for me to settle down. Ugh, where's my manners… I am Serif. You all are?

The critters made noises in response. Serif heard these sounds as "Meeb".

"Meeb? Interesting name for interesting critters. I do have a question, are there any monsters here? Every island has at least one."

The Meebs swirled around a large pile of pink plasma rocks, letting out chirps and gurgles.

A rustling sound alerted Serif. Their feathers ruffled as they approached where the Meebs swirled. They only stopped when they caught a glimpse of a pair of large eyes.

Serif was taken aback by the sound of growling and frightened rustling, no doubt coming from the mystery creature. Even though they knew better, Serif slowly floated around the rock to the back, where they could clearly see the poor mystery monster.

A short, colorful body housed a neck that rivaled a Yawstrich, all in a vibrant red-pink color. Stubby legs and long, lanky limbs accompanied the small body, supporting it nonetheless. Its arms faded into a bright mossy color at the hands. The abnormally large, bulging eyes sat on the small head, darting around finding whatever information it could about the Auglur in front of it. A large green tail shook with fear, creating that rustling noise. That same sort of appendage sprouted atop the monster's head.

Serif quietly cleared their "throat" and extended their claw out to the new monster.

"Ah… hello. I am Ser-AH!"

Serif recoiled as the end of a colorful rod nearly bashed the side of their flowery head. The rod sported two Meebs, one on each end, both growling and gurgling at Serif.

All the other Meebs swirled around the new monster's head like mad. They all chirped and gurgles in disapproval. The Auglur sighed and slowly stooped down to the Monster's level.

"Now, now, fear not my friend. I am not going to harm you. I am Serif, a dream traveling Auglur. I have traveled many places, but this colossal's head connected with me on a personal scale, and I couldn't help but want to come and live here. I deeply apologize, I did not mean to intimidate you or intrude onto this island, it was purely impulsive." Serif attempted to quiet and slow their voice for the poor monster. The tactic seemed to be working, seeing as the monster started to lower its rod and decrease the tail rustling.

The Meebs perched on the monster's long arms. Said monster gazed at Serif, tilting its head like a Reedling pup. It's tail was shaking again, but Serif guessed it was from less fear and more intrigue. With one of its abnormally long arms, it reached up to Serif's head.

"Hmm… you seem like a curious one. Ah-ah-ah, not the head, thank you." The Auglur gently moved the monster's grabby hand away from their head, despite the chitters of dissatisfaction. Serif gave it a look only a tired caretaker would.

"I have been wondering, do you have a name for your kind?" The monster pointed at Serif.

"What about me? Why- oh, do you not have a name? You want me to help?" The monster trilled happily in response. The Meebs around the monster flitted around both the monster, gurgling. Serif thoughtfully pondered on a name, but came across a certain one.

"Here, I see you are rather close to these Meebs, as if you are their kin. Would Meebkin suffice? Not your actual name, of course." The Meebkin's eyes lit up and its tail shook with happiness.

"Mhykczzo! Mhyyyykczo!!"

Serif went wide-eyed at the words.

"You can speak?" The Meebkin just made a sound similar to laughing, but chirpier. Nonetheless, it nodded. It pointed to its mouth then made a cutthroat motion.

"It gets hard? So only sometimes. Ahhh, I get it now. I have those times, as well..."

Serif thought back to what the Meebkin voiced.

"Myckzo… mykzo… Oh! Why not Myxo be your actual name?" The Meebkin sat there, suddenly bursting out in ecstatic trills.

"Haha, so Myxo? Are you really the only monster here?" Myxo nodded.

"Then, I know I said this earlier, would you mind having a neighbor, perchance?" Myxo playfully slapped its hands on the ground and squeaked.

"I shall take that as a yes."
