Work Text:

The house that they're renting out for the time being is by the ocean. A choice made by Barbie, specifically, as she wanted it to feel like home. They've chosen a place where Alan can drive up to, as Midge made her one request.

It's a nice house, though.

There's enough space for all of them, including Alan. The windows are big and let in so much sunlight that it takes Christie's breath away when she gets up. There's a patio with a circle of chairs that surround a fire pit. They have an entire section of backyard before it even tapers off into sand and the beach. The beach is more rocky than sandy, though, but it's still nice.

Christie pushes open the door to the patio, where Kira is sitting down. She's facing the ocean with her sketchbook open in her lap. She has begun the very beginning of a drawing of their view.

Christie places the glass of water she's holding on the small table next to Kira and pulls up a chair, turning it around so she, too, can face the ocean. The sky is slightly overcast, a gray and dreary morning, to say the least. But Kira's out here, so Christie is as well. "Good morning," She speaks, watching the water rock back and forth over the beach from so far away.

Kira looks over at her with a smile. "Good morning. I thought it'd be fun to try and draw the view."

Christie brings one of her knees up to her chest. "It's beautiful," She hums, "I'm glad we get to hang around here for a while."

"Me too," Kira agrees, "Though, I'm surprised Ken hasn't dragged anyone down the beach yet, looking for shells or seaglass."

"Maybe I can convince him to take me," She looks over at Kira, smiling. Kira rolls her eyes fondly before going back to sketching.

They sit together quietly, the only sound being the sound of the ocean crashing onto the shore and the calls of a few birds occasionally. It's nice.

As they sit longer, the sky starts to slowly grow darker, clouds rolling in overhead. Kira doesn't seem to notice, but Christie knows.

She stands up and moves in front of Kira. "What does it smell like?"

"What?" Kira splutters, surprised, "What does what smell like?"

Christie opens up her arms to gesture out around her, around the area. "What does it smell like?"

Kira makes a face. Then after a few moments, she says, "It smells like..."

"Rain!" Christie shouts, with glee. She grabs Kira's hand, making her stand up. "It smells like rain," She grins, and Kira laughs.

"You're right," She closes the sketchbook. "Give me a minute."

Soon enough, they're both out in the yard, standing out in a light drizzle. Christie is twirling, spinning, in it, laughing all the while. Kira joins her soon enough and they're both running around in the muddy grass, playing in the rain.

Christie pulls Kira toward her, through the rain. She kisses her quickly, pulling away and running further into the grass.

They end up down by the shore soon enough, watching the waves crash a little stronger than before. Maybe when it's nicer, they'll swim. But not now.

Kira finally catches her and returns the kiss, water running down their faces.

They return inside, hair and clothes soaked, mud covering their shoes and legs.

Barbie laughs at them, Derek makes a face.

Ken pulls them back outside again.
