Sweet words of pain

Summary:

"He admires you, a navigator who composes poetry in your spare time"

Akivili would write poems while Aha was there to listen, always, a promise carried on till the end of their time.

Notes:

Hoyoverse didn't let Aha mourn Akivili enough in canon so I'm taking it upon myself to let them have a complete meltdown.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Akivili, Akivili, what are you writing down now?”

Aha asked, taking the time to completely snuggle on their lover’s lap, not wearing the mask as a means to be comfortable while Akivili lost complete sight of what they were doing. The Elation knew this, that is why they got in the middle, they wanted not only to snoop into what they were composing, but also get their lover’s full attention.

“My Joy.. I need to see to be able to write, at least coherent words and sentences.”

Mentioned The Trailblaze, releasing a soft sigh as they dropped the supplies and just wrapped their arms around the big and demanding cat that was Aha sitting on them with no regard for the size different that both held in their human forms. Even calling The Elation’s figure “human” was an exaggeration due to how… uncanny they really looked like. Akivili brushed their fingers against their lover’s face, feeling how the traits on it changed under the fingertips, that being a sensation the Aeon quickly learned to accept and, sooner than later, enjoy; it meant The Joyseeker was in a good mood, which was good for everyone… most of the time. Calming down the storm that was Aha’s feelings and emotions was always part of Akivili’s job, but they never seemed to be bothered by it, being someone’s compass was their speciality after all.

“Want me to read some for you?”

And the features immediately moved faster as a show of excitement, the chimes of the distant bells getting louder, bolder and seemingly closer. The Architect lets out a slight chuckle as they rubbed Aha’s back and made them move so they could reclaim the papers on their free hand; slowly leaning against Aha’s chest as kind of a way of keeping them close. The words that came out of The Trailblaze’s mouth were soft, almost musical, like a nightingale standing on a window sill of a princess at the first light of dawn. Aha could listen to their lover talk for hours, but when it came to poems, The Elation could spend years, even a millenia listening to the melodious tones, rhymes and words. As if in a complete trance, the taller Aeon pulled their legs closer to their body, hugging them while completely entertained by the length of the piece.

“Aha could listen to Akivili until the universe ends.”

The Aeon of Trailblaze got stunned by those words, the fact that their lover would say something like this was even bigger than what anyone else could imagine. Anything could catch The Elation’s interest, but they would lose it just as fast. Implying that they could listen to Akivili for so long was beyond imaginable for the other Aeons, yet The Architect knew, they both knew how important their presence was for eachother.

Taking one of Aha’s big hands, The Trailblaze took it to their lips to lay a gentle kiss on the skin, kissing also every finger individually before raising their eyes to look at their lover’s expressions.

“Then never leave my side and let’s love each other till the end.”

A promise to share an eternity was not something any of the Aeons said lightly, not even Aha, with their carefree personality, has ever asked to remain by someone’s side in such a way and for such a time. They did not have a short lifespan, even with the Vidyadhara, no being on the mortal world could compete with how long their deities could last, from the beginning to the very end of existence and life itself.

Many Nameless have joined their lives before on the Astral Express, it was their house and their home, and, for some, the only place they could exist in unapologetically. But even if the ceremony was only celebrated with the Aeons’ factions’s presence, it was kown far and wide about the two deities that decided to make their lives one in a ceremony performed in between the mortals.

The Masked Fools had many experts within them, but none of them knew how to properly craft a wedding dress. Buying one was impossible due to Aha’s inhuman proportions, so to please their Aeon everyone got together to make, at the best of their capacities, the most convoluted, colorful and extravagant bridal gown any living and eternal being could wear. Needles, patches, sequins and the like were part of what composed the attire, whereas Aha was assured by Akivili it was fine not to wear the mask that day, they wanted to marry their lover and let people watch every aspect of it, no hiding, no need for that on the most important day of their existence.

It was on brand for the two most human deities to have a wedding just like the people they walked amongst; but even then, The Trailblaze was understandably nervous, pacing back and forth at the common hall that was transformed for the occasion; while people with an assortment of complicated and extremely decorated masks enjoyed their time with others that were maskless, but sported the same golden pin on their clothes across the group.

The music change made everyone go silent before the Masked started cheering loudly and throwing confetti and party assets, Aha’s path being filled with colored papers and even some candy and small gifts, this not bothering them at all; on the contrary, every mouth that appeared was smiling and every eye was slightly closed, that was enough for Akivili to solidify this was, indeed, the correct choice.

The contrast between the partners’ dresses was staggering, especially since The Trailblaze’s one was gold and white, carefully crafted by the Nameless. Both attires represented the wearers immensely: Akivili, a glowing star that had a shine impossible to dim, and Aha, a set of complicated yet colorful emotions that somehow work together. Both gorgeous, both happy, both ready.

The ceremony was talked about for the longest time amongst every living being, the story of love between a Star and a Madman, almost unbelievable, but love does find itself in the strangest of places.

"I told you I would read you poems until the end of life, a Trailblazer always follow their promises."

Lies… nothing but pure lies . Akivili was dead, their eternity cut too short in circumstances no one really knows.

"How are you going to make it up to me, Akivili?!"

Aha was mad, but not like always, this was a different kind of mad, one that burns in your chest and makes you want to hurt others how you were hurt. It was news to no one how strong Aha was, how powerful the Madman behind the mask could be if they so desired… but that was not Aha's intention, the happenings with the train being long gone, even while lingering on their mind from time to time. Aha was not made to hurt others this way. Aha was not meant to hurt others this way. Destroying things was not on their path, not due to anger… but was crying part of it? OF COURSE! Crying is good, crying is mad, crying is fun.

Loud cackles filled the universe, echoing along the ones that remained with their ascension, crying, laughing, it was the best they could do. Akivili's name resonating on their mind more times that they could count, it was echoing on it nonstop and Aha was getting mad… more mad than before.

Even when time could help the pain be bearable, it doesnt mean it will fix a broken heart, and if it does, the cracks will always be there as a token of remembrance. The Elation lost half of themselves when their spouse "left" like that, but that night, with a colorful and patchy dress, the one so called The Joyseeker would find confort amongst the mortal fields.

Aha could not write poems, at least not ones that could convey all the feelings their body was experiencing, feelings that plagued their mind since the day that they felt the connection break. They could not write any poem… it was Akivili’s job, the Aeon who selfishly decided to die (or that was what Aha was telling to themselves).

“How can I write for you? A single page cannot contain everything I want to let out. Aha is sad… and Akivili is selfish… Akivili is… was… selfish…”

Akivili was never selfish, Aha knew that very well, they were probably the most selfless person everyone came to know; but when you feel like your entire being is being pulled apart, when the path you set yourself to walk on is looking more and more blurry every day while almost disappearing, breaking, what was left to do? They were useful for the other Aeons, Aha was always happy to please the others… at least when entertained enough. But the only one who understood them, that saw beyond the ever laughing clown was the one who no longer lived. Aha was sad, and the human form was the only one that could contain that sadness, even when the body was smaller, ironically; it was hard making the masks cry.

Aha could not write poems, but their hand moved by itself, long and slender fingers grasping the broken pen at the best of their ability while silently writing on the paper that was getting damper by the second, even with the clearest of skies, even when the moon shined with all its might, even when there was no rain, the paper in which Aha was writing, was getting wet. The legs under the dress were serving as a good support, even then, the words were shaky and in no way clear for the untrained eye, but the Aeon did not care.

Finishing the writing… What a masterpiece! Only someone like The Great Joyseeker could write something so great on their first try! Truly marvelous, a spectacle of their own!

Elated, they hugged the paper, seeing the almost intelligible rhyme that would make any literature expert go completely mad, but ah… destiny is cruel, and even their own hand played pranks on Aha, now, they were the ones that got wet.

“

I could write the saddest words on this

Lonely night… write about the stars, the faraway planets.

Oh… the wind is dancing and the sky is singing…

Viewing as I loved them, and sometimes…

Even I like to think they loved me too.

You could say It didn't matter that my love couldn't keep them,

Or that the sky is full of stars… they’re not with me.

Unfortunately for us, our love was too short but the misremember will be long

At this point, my heart won’t get appeased by

Knowing I lost them, even if this is the last pain it causes to someone like

I am…even if these… are the last words I write.

”

It hurt but they read it, they read it out loud for their lover, knowing that, wherever Akivili was, they could listen. Destiny is cruel on its own, but if this was the closure they needed, then so be it. Aha needs to continue walking, but that night, and only for that night, it was fine to cry in the colorful dress.

Notes:

Poem at the end is a translation and interpretation with adjustments from snippets of Pablo Neruda's Poem Number 20.

I LOVE YOU AKI, did you see it? Because I am weeping in my chair while wearing my Aha hoodie. As someone who used to write solely poems and also consumed a lot of them it was rather painful to make Aha's convoluted on purpose, could you even call it a poem? Maybe not, but at this point I dont think Aha would care. Yes, I AM the one who will go mad lmfao. I wrote this while listening to Adagietto by Arash Safaian for around 4 hours straight until there was a time where I needed silence and it was just me and my demons dancing in my brain. I DID cry twice while writing this fic, it just turned out that whenever my brain came up with something to add it was more damaging to my psyche than the last one.

This beast is also a bit out of my usual style since I normaly dont use repetitive sentences to convey a message, but I sorta wanted to write this as if Aha themselves were the ones telling the story while being an active participant, also for dramatic effect.
