Summary
This wasn’t what he had expected from his reunion with Alva. Realistically, he had expected violence, for Alva to do unto him what he did unto Alva. Half his brain may have been scooped out and replaced with circuits, but Luca still knows that what had happened—with the Abyss, with the creatures, and Alva being gone—had been his fault. In all the hazy half-recalled scenes and dreams, it has always been his fault.
He hadn’t expected, in a million years, for Alva to show him grace. Or at least, he thinks this is grace. Sure, he’s strung up across his own office by shadowy abyssal creatures, but he’s not been murdered yet. That had to count for something, surely.
