Work Text:

¨Ugh, it's raining and I didn't bring an umbrella.¨ She thinks
She decides to take shelter under a bridge until the storm passes seeing as she walked here and her house is over 45 minutes away. Great, she thinks until she sees something running her way. She can't get a good look but she thinks its a white cat. It gets closer and runs past her, she sees multiple tails and the face is a mix of a cat and a fox. She has read about these! A kitsune! They aren't real though... so they shouldn't be here.
Against her better judgment, she decides to follow it.
She quickly gets up and runs after it, covering her head with her hands as she runs out into the rain. She follows it into a forest, somewhere she hasn't been before. As it runs into a bush, she leans down and opens it to see... a.. door? That shouldn't be there either...
She decides to open it, its small but somehow she was able to crawl through. Scared, she opens her eyes once inside. It's beautiful. There's amazingly green trees, moss, flowers, and... bookshelves? She inches closer and picks up a book, as she touches it the moss and flowers fall off all at once. Opening the book she finds that it's in perfect condition, amazing.. She puts it back to see moss and flowers growing upon it once more.
She walks forwards, remembering the animal she was following. There is just more bookshelves and trees until she sees a bright light at the end. As she walks through the leaves hanging down she notices shes out of the forest to reveal fields and fields of beautiful fresh grass, scattered flowers, and trees every once in awhile. She realizes this place is oddly familiar, but she cant quite place it. All she knows is she feels comfortable here. Looking around once more she spots the kitsune. Except now its bigger, way bigger. Its just about the size of herself. She runs to it, unable to stop herself. Slowing herself as she gets closer. She stares into its eyes, the magnificent creature staring back into her own. ¨Hello.¨ She says quietly to it, not expecting it to understand english. But to her surprise it nods a hello. ¨Do you know where i am? Or how to get out of here?¨ She says. There's silence for almost a minute until it speaks, shocking her.
¨Do you really want to leave?¨ It says, the voice is smooth and dark.
¨I- I must leave. I have responsibilities to attend to back home.¨ …Silence.
¨Do you want to leave?¨ It says again.
¨Well, no I don't want to but I must. Please help me.¨ She responds
She stares at the creature, pleading with her eyes.
¨If you need this place, then it will find you. But once you no longer need it, you must go. This place will find you at your darkest moment whether you want to or not.¨ It says.
¨Well, I suppose I could stay, its most likely still thundering back home.¨ She says, still a bit worried. She looks off to the distance, thinking.
¨Where shall i go?¨
¨Anywhere.¨ It says.
She turns to face the creature but find it gone without a trace.

Years pass and she is still there, accustomed to this world, bestfriends with the kitsune that once lured her here. She has grown more confident, happier, content. Until one day the kitsune comes to her.
¨It was nice meeting you.¨ He says.
¨What do you mean? Im not leaving anytime soon.¨ She says, laughing a bit.
¨Im afraid you are. This world has changed you, you need this world no longer. You cannot stay, im sorry my friend.¨ He says
¨W-what? No! I need this place! I- I-¨ She stammers, frantically.
¨Goodbye friend. When you need this world, you will be guided back to me.¨
And with that, she awakens. Under the bridge once again.
She checks her phone to find the same date, as if no time has passed.
The rain has stopped and is now bright and sunny. She decides to go forward, not the same person she once was.
