A surprise gift

Summary:

All Chat Noir knew was that the meeting spot was changed to the top of the Eiffel Tower and come hungry. He had no idea what Ladybug was planning but he knew better than to push her for answers. All he could do was sit there and wait until she decided to show up.

Spooktober day 19 Apple flavored desert

Work Text:

Humming to himself, Chat Noir pulled his baton out to check the time. Ladybug texted him early this morning to bring his appetite and meet her on top of the Eiffel Tower instead of going to their normal patrol spot. He wasn’t quite sure what this was about, but he knew better than to ask Ladybug. When she wasn’t in the mood to tell secrets no amount of poking and prodding would convince her to tell him. Letting out a long sigh, he placed the baton back on his back and watched the colorful city below. She was running a few minutes late, which isn’t unusual by her standards. There was a reason he started telling her that the call time was 15 minutes before the actual call time.

His cat ears twitched at the faint zwip and the sound of her yo-yo latching onto a nearby beam. A blur of red and black shot past him before softly landing behind him on the platform. “Purrhapse meow you could claw me in on what this is all about?”

“Maybeeeee.” Ladybug replied as she carefully took off a small pink backpack off her back and sat it on the ground. She pulled out several different containers of Tupperware filled to the brim with food. “I hope your hungry because I’m starving.”

Seeing the various containers of food, Chat Noir’s eyes gleamed with excitement. He was starving, and as Ladybug uncovered each dish of food his hunger only grew. It took all his willpower to stop himself from drooling. Then he remembered that there had to be a reason why Ladybug was doing this. It wasn’t any anniversary that he could recall nor was it a special holiday. Before he could think any further, an empty plate was offered to him and he gratefully took it and started to dish up the various food. “Bug this looks amazing. Did you make this all yourself?”

Tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear, a light blush came onto her face. “Mostly. I had some help from my mother picking out all the recipes and my father helped me with some of the more intricate work.” Gently shaking her head a satisfied smile came onto her lips as she watched her partner dish up a large assortment of food with vigor. She knew that just the amount of exercise she got from protecting Paris alone caused her to be constantly hungry. She couldn’t imagine what her partner was going through since he mentioned one night that he was also an athlete in his civilian life. She took the opportunity to dish herself up her own portion of food and started to chow down.

The meal continued on peacefully as they talked about ‘safe’ topics; things they’ve seen as heroes, personal takes on random topics, and random interests. Eventually every single dish was empty of food and Chat Noir gently pat his belly. “I’m glad I listened to you Bug, because I don’t think I could eat another bite.”

“Awww, really? I saved the best for last.” She pulled her yo-yo from her hip and opened her pocket dimension and started to fish around. “I was really concerned about this getting damaged, so I put it in here instead of the backpack.”

Hearing Ladybug’s concern peaked Chat Noir’s interest as he sat up straight. “You have my attention.” He assumed she was referring to more food, but he was having a hard time picturing what food could be damaged in transit via rooftops. A cake or pie would make sense, all the jumping and jostling around could cause it to break.

“Found it!” She triumphantly called out, pulling out a white cake box from the yo-yo and placing it on the floor. “Go ahead and open it.”

“Really?” Chat Noir pointed at himself in surprise. Ladybug nodded her head in agreement. Upon seeing that he carefully opened the lid of the box. It took him a second to realize what he was looking at before he quickly shut the lid. “No. You didn’t.”

“Mhmmm.”

“How did you? When did you?”

“For you I’d do anything.”

Chat Noir looked between Ladybug and the box one more time before opening the container one more time. He carefully took the item out of the box and sat it on the floor. It was a baked apple pie, but the crust was decorated with a picture of him. “It’s too pretty to eat.”

“I hope you’d eat it, otherwise all the apples we picked last week would have gone to waste.” Ladybug smiled at him producing a pie cutter and some smaller plates.

Chat Noir was overcome with emotions. He took her apple picking last week as a way to get her to relax, it was Aeon who picked the location though. To know that she took something they did together and turn it into such a sweet treat was miraculous. “I’m taking a picture first and gloating to Alya later. I’m the luckiest cat around.” He quickly pulled out his baton and took a picture of the pie before returning the weapon to his back and reaching for the pie cutter.

He carefully cut two slices of pie, one for each of them. Handing Ladybug her plate, he cut into the slice with his fork and raised it into the air. “To our partnership.”

“To us!” Ladybug agreed before they both dug into the sweet treat.
