Work Text:

Oceans are well known for being vast and mainly empty. They were lonely, too. Especially when your whole culture thrived off abandoning their spawn in one covering a majority of the planet. Learning to do everything basically on your own, it was difficult. Adding a giant water-beast on top of that that was constantly demanding food didn't lighten the load. Nobody understood how difficult it was for Eridan. Not even Eridan understood.

Granted his demeanor didn't aid to deserving better treatment from his companions. He would often say rude or insulting things with no reason beyond sharing. His actions weren't any better. To his defense they wouldn't act any different towards him. It was learn behavior of his generation to treat others nastily. Though, these troll stuck around, they gave Eridan hope he could grow redder feelings for another. Blackness festered inside his guts bringing fear that he'd never truly find happiness in another living being. Yet, the hope seeded itself deep in his soul digging roots into every bit of him. He would often lie to his morial that this new emotion was revolting. In truth, during private moments, he would bask in its warmth.

He feared sharing this personal fact for what if they saw him as weak? Flowing rage would fill the empty gaps left behind by tight lips unwilling to share this hideous secret of red passion. Some nights, he'd dream of another swimming to him, willing to give everything to be with him. This, of course, never actually happen. Eridan continued to half heartedly dream like this up until the group entered their session. The curse of being hopelessly hopeful.

After Feferi, the only close relationship he'd ever known, left him for dead Eridan was broken inside. He entered the game, explored his planet, and decided it was time to take the burden of his existence away. Slowly he took a sword he'd found on the bleak planet and cut into each of his wrists. The violet sludge dripped out quickly pouring onto the carpet below.

Terror suddenly flooded Eridan. He still didn't feel like staying alive but the fear of death loomed uncomfortably close. A last ditch effort to seek help struck his nerves. Even in pain his hands fumbled around a familiar keyboard. He was grateful to himself for coming back to his respiteblock to fulfill the deed.

Almost instinctually he messaged Feferi first.

CA: um hey fef are you possible avvailable for a bit
CA: i could really use some help right about now

There was no response.
Vriska wasn't messaging back either. No response from Karkat. Equius must've been busy too. Sollux was on an 'afk' status so that was useless to even try. Desperately he started seeking our others who weren't as close. Finally someone responded, but it wasn't who Eridan expected.

*caligulasAquarium pasted out*

Eridan pasted out on the keyboard button smashing with his face.

Gamzee was concerned, but not sure of what do to. He didn't want his best fish bro existing the game this early on. Scrambling up and captchalogue his stuff Gamzee sprung to action. Trolling some others he figured out how to get to Eridan's planet pretty quickly through a short cut or two of weird portals. Yet, not quick enough. Pools of violet blood surrounded the hipster troll. Gamzee was finally meeting fishbro face to dead face. The Prince of Hope laid on the floor unknowing of the warmth welcomes his clownbro was giving.

Purple tears streamed from Gamzee's aching eyes. He didn't know why he was crying. He'd heard somewhere down the grape vibe a kiss could bring them back to life. Was that true, he questioned himself best he could without lucid thoughts, while also daydreaming about flying mermaid goats off in the farthest sea.

Well, there wasn't enough practical time to think or daydream, so, Gamzee shoved that logic as far down as it would go before grabbing Eridan's violet blood painted face and kissing the ever loving hell out of its corpse lips. He leaned back up looking at Eridan intently. Was this flushed passion or just gas from too many slime pies the clown thought again juggling logic around like a toy. Lightyears away Eridan's dream self woke up bringing him seemingly back from the dead. The crazy clown achieved saving his fishbro! But how would this effect Eridan? Someone went out of their way to help him without a clear purpose. Did this mean there was hope again?

Time, or whatever energy waves created the illusion of time, would surely tell.

Originally wrote this back in October 2023, but decided to revamp it! I like being able to express my negative emotions into art forms like this.
