Extraordinary

Summary:

Chamber wonders if he can gain radiance if he tries hard enough. Instead, another unusual situation occurs.

Notes:

This is my take on how Chamber's tattoos and dimension works. The work itself is a sort of a prologue for my other fic that I'm working on at the moment.

Work Text:

If my theory is correct it would mean every human being is a radiant.

Each in a unique way and measure. We just have to pull this power out on the surface.

When a person is a radiant they are capable of unusual skills. Would those be destructive or productive, the radiance itself is simply magic. And magic is extraordinary.

Vincent wished to be exactly that. Because such was his nature. He built his way into weaponry design and turned it upside down. Turned it into art of his own. Could he do the same with himself? Turn his ordinary body with ordinary strengths into something that would be not just new, but other. The possibilities of it are endless, because the radiance is unique. And the strengths of this uniqueness are also special each on their own.

Thus, he started an experiment.

To realize that you are a radiant, one would need contact with radianite. Then, something happens and you are a new self. It was a poor explanation but it was the only one Vincent or anyone had.

He tried different ways of approaching this logic while attempting to find his radiance. Physical contact, inhaling, injecting, even eating. It was reckless and he never made any progress. So, he slightly changed the subject of this research and used different forms of radianite. Yes, he already tried contacting the vapor of crystals and the fluid radianite, which caused him slight poisoning. But what if the radianite was unprocessed? Or the opposite, if it went through different changes? What if it was from different places?

Vincent went on but still couldn’t get it right. His hopes started to fade away. One last thing was left to try on the list - The superheated radianite. Some would call it “activated” and it was one more reason for Vincent to try it. This state of the mineral, however, was notably dangerous. And Vincent had his view on danger and it cost him many things. Usually, he didn’t learn in the times of his worst stubbornness.

The lab wasn’t as safe for superheating radianite as Vincent expected. The radianite sent a surge of energy that triggered an explosion. It wasn’t big, but it did do damage. Lab was a mess when Vincent woke up. His scientists stared at him, while he tried to find his glasses. He felt something on the left side of his head. But touching it didn’t show him anything new.

“The radianite, monsieur.” One of the scientists called out. “Are you feeling alright?”

“I’m okay.”

He looked at the closest mirror, the only one that wasn’t broken due to the explosion. He saw radianite under his skin. Triangular bits, shining with bluish dark color. He tried to touch it again and the radianite answered with a bright spark of his glasses materializing out of nowhere and falling on the floor.

Extraordinary.

A pocket dimension under his own skin.

Later on it was developed into radianite tattoos. Slightly different from what some actual radiants had. Vincent covered part of his head with them, painting them golden. Then, his arms once he realized he could store guns there. In his line of work it was very useful. Alongside this project he created Tour de Force. A powerful sniper rifle out of radianite and metal. Vincent expanded his radianite marks to go down his spine in order to hide the rifle in them. And he found another unique element of these tattoos.

He could hide in them, too.

It was, indeed, a pocket dimension. Where exactly Vincent didn’t have any idea. He looked around the dark space. Broken marble statues and columns flew in the air and a wall of weapons levitated in front of him. Of weapons he made. Headhunter. Tour de force. Multiple copies. But he never put that many of them here.

His vision shifted to a familiar man behind the floating wall of weapons. Reflection was the first thing that came to his mind. It was a right assumption. And it was at the same time completely wrong. For the man was some other version of himself. He appeared to be surprised but just for a moment. He then gave Vincent a warm smile.

“Took you so much longer than me to figure it out. What a pity.”

Vincent didn’t really know what to say. Many questions on his mind.

“Interesting that we seem to share this place. I did not realize it would work like that.”

“Who are you?” Vincent spoke as if threatening the stranger but in response he received a smile. Again.

“You know who I am. We're almost the same. Our worlds on the other hand,” He thought to himself for a second. "So different."
