Work Text:
Kipo looked over Trash Canyon, tears spilling from her eyes. Mandu was sitting beside her, looking at her with sad eyes. Baby Dave was completely oblivious to what was happening.
Benson had been gone for a while, trying to catch up with Wolf and get her to come back. Kipo doubted that he'd come back with her. And that hurt. A lot.
She and Wolf had made so much progress! She'd finally convinced her to come with her to her burrow, and then her stupid fur had to ruin all of it. She hated it.
Kipo saw Wolf as her sister. Her little sister. She'd decided on being her best friend since the first time they met. And while Wolf had been reluctant to accept the friendship, Kipo had eventually won her over.
Wolf had looked at Kipo in such fear when she found out about the fur. Kipo had never seen Wolf look like that before. She had been scared if her. Terrified even.
Kipo had a knot in her stomach. It hurt so bad.
After staring out into the distance for what felt like hours, she heard pants and someone running towards her. With her newly accomplished super hearing, she knew that it was Benson. And he was alone.
More tears left her eyes.
He stopped right behind her and Kipo knew that he was hesitating to reveal that Wolf was gone forever. That she wouldn't come back.
Finally, he spoke up.
"Kipo, I'm so sorry..."
And Kipo broke down. She fell to her knees and brought her hands up to cover her face. She broke out into tears and sobs and Benson was quick to sir down beside her and wrap his arms around her in a tight hug.
He let her cry into his shoulder for however long she cried. Her heart was aching. She had just lost someone who she considered her family. All because of something that she couldn't control. Maybe if she had told Wolf about it sooner, she would have still been there.
When her tears finally stopped, she let Benson let go of her. She wiped her face with a fist and sniffled sadly. Benson put a hand in your shoulder.
"I'm still here for you, you know that, right?" he asked and Kipo nodded, feeling thankful for his company.
"Let's just go. My dad's waiting," Kipo sighed, wrapping het arms around herself as she started to walk.
Benson picked baby Dave up and glanced down at Mandu with a worried expression. The pig returned the same look before the both of them followed Kipo. They knew she wasn't feeling good because of what happened, but they would be there for her, no matter what.
That day she lost one friend, but became closer to another.
