Work Text:
Wolf wasn't used to eating breakfast.
As a survivor, she was considered lucky if she managed to get dinner. Most of the time, she'd end up eating legs and arms off of insect mutes, since they were the easiest to catch.
Now when Las Vistas was in peace, she got to eat breakfast. She got to eat lunch. She got to eat dinner. She even got to eat small snacks between each meal if she felt like it!
She never had to go hungry anymore. A few meters to the kitchen and she didn't even have to question if there would be food in the fridge. It was amazing, such a luxury!
It was weird.
Sometimes, Kipo would offer to share her snacks with Wolf. Wolf would always look at her as if she had lost her mind. Giving food away could mean that she wouldn't get to eat in days, or at least in several hours!
And then, Wolf had to remind herself that the Oak's had plenty of food and that there was nothing wrong in sharing it. She still rejected Kipo's offer.
Wolf was unsure about wasting food. She never let a crumb stay on her plate whenever she ate. Kipo, on the other hand, would leave bits and pieces on her plate that she disliked, letting her parents throw the leftovers away.
Wolf was baffled the first time that happened. Someone could have eaten that!
So when Wolf one day had a nightmare and didn't feel good enough to eat breakfast, Song decided that she could throw it away. Immediately, Wolf protested.
"I-I'll just eat it later. Please don't throw it away!" she tried to convince her mother.
Song sat down in front of her daughter.
"Your sandwich is going to get really yucky if you don't eat it right now, and I know that you don't feel good. You can throw it away, it's okay!" Song tried to reassure Wolf, but her daughter was stubborn.
"I don't mind if it's yucky. Just don't throw it away!"
Wolf didn't want to be someone who wasted food. Her parents had made her a while sandwich with butter, ham and cheese and some lettuce. She had to eat it, whether it was then or later.
"I'd rather not have my children eat yucky food, honey. You don't have to feel bad. I'll make you more food when you get hungry!" Song promised and Wolf felt too tired to disagree, eventually letting her mom throw her uneaten sandwich away.
She drank her water at least, which was good enough for Song. And after that, Song would make sure that Wolf didn't force herself to eat when she didn't want to. She didn't want her children to have an unhealthy relationship with food. They were supposed to eat until they were full, and that was it.
It took several days before Wolf just let her mom throw the leftovers on her plate away.
And while she didn't feel completely comfortable by throwing food away, she knew that she wouldn't have to starve.
