She can't look away, couldn't if she had wanted to, not that she does. No, Ellie wants to stay right here forever, maybe lay down where she can see her own claw marks dug into the ground and let more her own blood meld with the dirt that’s turned into a muddy, crimson slop.
This is where she was supposed to die, she can feel it all the way down into her darkest parts. Call it destiny, fate, divinity; it doesn't matter.
Something was supposed to take her three days ago, she wasn't meant to leave this fucking field breathing, but for some reason she’d been spared while Joel was not, most of the darkened blood sullying the soil his and not hers.
