Work Text:
Matt came across a TikTok, one of which consisted of a woman and her boyfriend. They were sitting in a flower field on a picnic blanket. Both had separate piles of different colored flowers; the colors they chose were pretty similar, though. The video had cut to a clip of the two tying the flowers in knots. You could tell the woman was more experienced, but it was a sweet video.
This gave Matt an idea. He and Nick had been drifting apart recently, but they still saw each other, seeing as they live together. But the two would walk past one another and not even let out a little “hi.”. This situation affected Matt more than he would have ever thought. It affected his sleep schedule, how much he ate, and how many times he showered in a week. Even Chris noticed the unusual tension in the room when the two were there together.
There was no drama between them; they just kind of stopped talking to one another. Which again is crazy considering they were brothers and lived in the same house. Chris tried to set up a movie night for all of them, but Nick was too busy editing. Although he knew Matt would also be in the room, he made an excuse.
Matt missed everything about Nick—the sneaky looks from across the room, the little touches on the shoulder, sleeping in the same bed. Matt didn’t understand what was going on between him and Nick. So this time Matt was out of the loop. Just as I told you, in Matt’s eyes, nothing had gone wrong between him and Nick. He was oblivious to everything—his feelings and Nick's feelings. It was different; it was way different from how the two felt about Chris. But Matt didn’t notice.
The sneaky looks across the room made Nick's heart jump. The touches on one another’s should have made him get butterflies. Sleeping in the same bed felt comfortable—too comfortable. Sometimes he would even wake up with a boner and have to quickly but quietly make his way to the bathroom. These feelings for Matt were both sexual and romantic; he wanted to cuddle with Matt and watch movies together, but at the same time he wanted to see Matt on his knees sucking Nick's dickens.
These feelings were wrong and wouldn’t be acceptable. So Nick immediately closed all doors off with Matt. He would ignore Matt’s text when he asked to go to sleep in Nick's room; he would not talk to Matt in car videos and leave that job for Chris to take care of. The fans had not noticed; this was a normal Nick thing in their eyes. They assumed he just got tired of the topic and wanted to move on.
Let’s cut back to earlier. Remember that TikTok that Matt had seen? This is where his idea comes in.
Matt asked his mom (Chris can’t drive) if she would take Nick to a field—a flower field, to be specific. Matt didn’t want Nick to know he would be there, so he kept it a secret. His master plan was that he and Nick would talk it out over peanut butter and jelly and then make flower crowns.
Once Nick had made it there, his mom led him to the spot where Matt was and quickly left. Nick's cheeks lit up a bright red as he stood there in disbelief. He was annoyed; he was angry, but at the same time, he felt relieved and relaxed. "Hey," Matt said, looking into Nick's eyes with fear of how he would react. “Hi.” Nick said awkwardly, throwing his hand in the hair, imitating a wave of some sort. Matt signaled Nick to sit down on the blanket directly next to him, and how could Nick resist? He was already here, and at the moment, there was no way to get out of this.
