I let him shuffle me into an alley, tight on both sides with damp cinderblock and mercury-paint, more trash in there than would let a body pass though unscathed. Two kids are there, looking up at us with eyes set deep in brown faces. Their long hair is black and straight and greasy, clothing dirty-crusted on. Marv taps me on the shoulder and I flinch away but I can’t deny my ears perk up.
